With tariffs from the Trump administration now in place, the former president has said the U.S. is bringing in "$2 billion per day" from them. World in Focus: Hakan Yilmazkuday (@yilmazkuday), professor of economics (@FIUECON), references his research to project the inflationary effect of Trump administration tariffs on consumer purchases and its impact on stock markets. He cautions that it will take 13 months to see the effect of imposed tariffs on the price of consumer goods and those prices may rise for five years.

Congratulations to our Green School faculty honored as FIU Top Scholars for the academic year 2024-2025: Melissa Baralt (@MelissaBaralt), associate professor of Modern Languages, and Abu Shonchoy, associate professor of Economics.

Both were recognized for research and creative activities in their respective areas: Baralt for receiving a Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative grant from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs program; and Shonchoy as recipient of the ADB-IEA Most Innovative Policy Research Award, presented by the Asian Development Bank and the International Economic Association.
