Thoughts on gun violence:

I’ve never met any gun owner who wasn’t concerned about gun violence. I’ve also never met anyone who didn’t want to find viable solutions, myself included.

I prevented being raped by two men when I was 21 years old because I had a gun. I’ve still never shot anyone.

The answer is not to take guns from law-abiding citizens. The primary cause of gun death is mental illness. Suicide is a big factor, and mentally ill people - mostly young people, is another. If you take those two things out, the number would be significantly lower.

If you take out the criminal element, it would be a small number (relatively speaking - any deaths are too many). Most of the murders committed in America are committed by repeat offenders who didn’t have the legal right to have the weapon they possessed.

Nobody wants to talk about mental health, and nobody wants to talk about harsher penalties for violent criminals. They only want to talk about taking law-abiding citizens’ guns.

So, what is the answer? For now, we continue to do nothing, and people continue to die…
