California’s one-time billionaire wealth tax could gather revenue worth ~30 years of all CA billionaires' income taxes.
However, Jaros and Rauh argue that the tax would cost $25B in revenue.
How can we square this? Through many assumptions, all in the same direction. A thread:
@pierrebentata Il dit l'inverse:

@JesusFerna7026 roughly, taking 63% activity rate for natives and 78% activity rate for foreign born (correct me if wrong), without immigration spain would 1.65 active per retiree (proxied by >65yo), versus >2.1, seems quite sizable
In 1999, @PeterThiel earned $73,263 a year at PayPal. That made him eligible to open a Roth IRA.
And that’s exactly what he did. But not to put away $2,000 a year for retirement.
Instead, he set out to build an extraordinary tax-avoidance machine.
@RuckerCulpepper@PikettyWIL Ah you almost managed to read until the first comment of OP that explains the report aims at growing the world economy by 4 by 2100, just a little more effort !
@LeonMilner@VincentGeloso "In current system, 3,5 bn people live in a place where debt reimbursement is a larger share of GDP than education and health spending" => I think even for partisans of "growth and only growth" this is an issue, given the link b/w human K and growth.
@LeonMilner@VincentGeloso So it's not as obvious that more redistributive taxes will kill growth as some argue imo. Finally, the opinion piece every one comments (which is just a quick opinion piece, not the actual report) notes something interesting I think that's worth reacting to ...
@VincentGeloso Imo you don't sound as scientifically neutral as you think you do. The work is not "sloppy": I have never seen as many well documented methodological appendices as on the wil websites. Even the recent AS vs PSZ debate was really not as clear cut as you make it sound.
@LeonMilner@VincentGeloso You should read it again, you missed at least the core message which is: there is no "law of inequality" i.e. the "kuznets curve theory" is wrong (not much of a theory tbh, kuznets' own words). The whole point was to say: large political changes are needed for inequality to vary
@dasanaike sounds great. When you say "I digitize" do you mean you scanned the physical paper documents yourself? If you merely applied computer vision on digitized records, maybe use another term, one that does justice to the massive archival work of people who did digitize them :)
Bref t'as compris
