Can President Trump PLEASE give the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the Amish for their amazing work rebuilding Western North Carolina?
They have literally rebuilt HUNDREDS of bridges, homes, businesses, and roads... and are STILL HERE!!!
No group deserves it more.
When Texan collector Nelda Stark passed away in 1999, her estate executors hired a curator. The curator examined the paintings in the house one by one, moving those deemed 'valuable' into secure storage. But one painting looked so small and ordinary that the curator didn't see the need to move it, and left it right there in the bedroom. That painting was Gerrit Dou's 'Resting Dog'.
In 2005, Christie's auction experts arrived to appraise the contents of the home. They stopped in their tracks when they saw this small panel hanging in the bedroom. Measuring 16.5 x 21.6 cm, it's an oil on panel. They set an estimated sale price of $2 - $3 million. The final sale: $4.7 million.
Gerrit Dou (1613 - 1675), working in Leiden, painted this piece in 1650 when he was around 37 years old.
On February 14, 1628, at the age of 14, Dou became Rembrandt's first pupil. Rembrandt was 21 at the time; he was working closely with Jan Lievens and likely sharing a studio with him. Dou remained by his side for about three years. When Rembrandt moved to Amsterdam in 1631 - 1632, Dou stayed behind in Leiden. Over time, though, he chose a path that distinctly diverged from his master's.
While freer, more visible brushwork would define Rembrandt's later years, Dou developed a pictorial language defined by its small scale, intense detail, and highly polished finish. His surfaces often achieved an enamel-like smoothness. This approach ultimately laid the groundwork for the tradition later known as the Leiden fijnschilders, or 'fine painters'.
Dou applied finely ground paint in numerous overlapping thin layers. He combined transparent and semi-transparent layers of paint with opaque transitions and small, hatch-like brushstrokes. The result was a rich depth of color and a soft luminosity.
This needs to end.
If you know anyone who is wasting their wool, please have them contact us. We will build a network and get a wool pool going so that we can make the freight cost worth it.
Often times when a farmer is going to trash their wool, they can be sloppy with bagging up a lot of vegetable matter as well. Understandable. But for future shearing, if you bag your wool carefully, and ideally If you can get it pressed into a bale, we will buy it.
This is something that we can use for insulation, so quality doesn’t need to be exceptional.
Do follow Monique👇🏼-she’s a *very* good human dedicated to caring for hedgehogs in trouble-up much of the night just now tending to these tiny orphan hoglets, was the target of a relentlessly brutal trolling campaign that utterly destroyed her mental health (you *may* be able to guess the source of the prolonged attack) & @CarlBovisNature & I are friends of hers. Her original account was hacked but this is her new account. Maybe make your feed cheerier with angst-free & v v lovely hedgehog hospital posts 🦔:
I found Josh's account and I urge you to give him a follow.
I had a long conversation today with a friend that I used to party with who has been saved by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
You see, God loves you and he wants you to have a relationship with him. He wants to save you and he gives you free will to do just that.
Take what he's given you and use it to be saved. Hell is for eternity and I really don't wish that on anyone.
I want you all to repent and serve the Lord and be granted eternal peace in Heaven.
I'm no better than anyone. I'm a sinner. That being said, I seek the forgiveness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Our Father, and the Holy Spirit.
São Tomás de Aquino dizia que a ausência de sentimento não é ausência de Deus.
você reza e não sente nada.
pede e não recebe resposta.
faz tudo certo e o silêncio continua.
WATCH: Ranchers evacuate nearly 150 cows as the fast-moving Sinlahekin Fire closes in on the community.
The cattle were rushed through the streets of Conconully, Washington, in a dramatic race to safety.
“We didn’t hesitate and jumped right in to help,” one resident said after joining ranchers to steer the herd out of danger.
The wildfire has now grown to 85,000 acres and remains 0% contained, according to fire officials.
@japan_nobunaga And that, ladies and gents, is the foundation of a trust society. fundamental in a trust society that receiving help from your community requires reciprocation.
The rehoming people ring once a year to see how the pair are getting on, and the first question is never about the horse.
They ask about the donkey.
There is a reason they ask in that order and it is not sentiment. Equine charities will not split a bonded pair and will not place a donkey on his own, because a donkey does not tell you it is going wrong until it has gone a long way wrong. One that has lost his companion does not shout the place down. He stands there. He goes off his food quietly over a couple of days, and then his own body starts pulling fat into the bloodstream faster than the liver can clear it, and by the time he looks ill to a person he is very ill indeed.
So the sanctuaries pair them, keep the pairs together, move them together, and when one of a pair dies they let the other stand with him a while, because the animals given that time do measurably better afterwards than the ones simply led out to a lorry and left to work it out.
The entire practice exists because donkeys are quiet about it.
The farmer knows all that now. He did not know it on the day the rehoming woman produced a small grey donkey from behind the trailer and explained that the big gelding did not settle without him. He thought, that afternoon, that he was doing a favour for the horse.
He has since worked out that the arrangement runs both ways, and that the least demonstrative animal on the place is the one with the most invested in it.
So he answers the question. The donkey is fine. The donkey is in the dry corner. The donkey has the hay and the shelter and first claim on both, and a seventeen hand Cavalry Black stood patiently four feet off, waiting to be allowed at the good end of it.
Then he goes out and leans on the gate for a bit, which he did not used to do, and watches two old animals doing nothing whatsoever in the rain.
One of them minds the rain. One of them does not.
Neither has the faintest idea that a charity rings up about them once a year, or that there is a man in a wet coat stood at a gate, quietly relieved.

In 1964, Anthony Hopkins composed a beautiful waltz called And the Waltz Goes On. It was never performed, and over time the sheet music was forgotten.
Nearly 50 years later, his wife found the music and sent it to conductor André Rieu, who arranged for it to be performed in Vienna in 2011.
Imagine spending decades believing something you created would never be heard... then sitting in the audience as it comes to life for the very first time.
It's a reminder that not every dream happens when we want it to. Sometimes life has its own timing.
What's a dream you've held onto, no matter how long it's taken?
Last night — right before packing up at the York State Fair — a woman came over to our voter registration table.
She’s 51 years old & has never voted in her entire life (born in 1975).
So, I took out a voter registration form, filled it out for her, & had her sign.
She took a form for her husband, who hasn’t voted since he was 18.
I asked her, “Why now? Why did you choose to register today?”
She said, “Because I saw people excited about voting.”
So, when people tell me that voter registration doesn’t matter, I can tell you with certainty that it most definitely does.
Showing up, meeting people where they are, & investing your time matters — showing you give a darn matters.
Thank you Amerikaners for boosting this today. I needed the reminder. When every door closes it is just because those paths font reach the dream...I'll keep knocking😉
I am in tears. The owner and President of In N Out just said “I love you all and I ask you to turn to God”
Such a heartbreaking day. Pray for the families 🙏
