On this day — June 20, 1948

During a ceasefire — just weeks after Israel declared independence and as five Arab armies were trying to wipe the Jewish state off the map — Muslim Brotherhood operatives planted a bomb in the Jewish quarter of Cairo.

22 Jews murdered. 41 wounded.

Egyptian authorities tried to blame “fireworks.”

This was only the start.

Throughout the official truce periods of Israel’s War of Independence, the Muslim Brotherhood carried out a wave of bombings against Jewish neighborhoods and major Jewish-owned stores in Cairo.

By September, 70 Jews had been killed and nearly 200 wounded.

Even while at “peace,” they massacred their own Jewish citizens.

This was never about “Zionists.” It was about Jews.

The same pattern played out across the Arab world.
