Family ODP group run by a different ODP every week to showcase our talents and help generate more interest in the profession. PM us to arrange your week :)
Gruelling final day of the week. Big complicated emergency case we had to shoehorn into a full elective list resulted in an overrun. But also, a reminder we're here to help each other out, with a heart to heart with a colleague in need of some support. Wish could do more. #Team
Cornea list today, which went smoothly. Another mix of GA and locals, which I enjoy. Nice to get to know and talk to patients pre, peri and post operatively. Also trying to arrange for some of our medical devices to be serviced now visitors are slowly allowed back into hospital
Good example of the variations in role and specialty. Yesterday worked with elderly patients with dementia, today doing laser treatment on 1 week old premature baby.
Good mix of a list today in Occuplastics, with both GAs and Local cases. Particularly rewarding assiting a 90 year old with mobility issues, dementia and hard of hearing successfully get through her case. Thanking me for hand holding her through it. She was a hero. #odp
Evening everyone. This week we'll be following me @thestringfella working within @NUHEyeTheatres. Could be an interesting week as we slowly go back to running three theatres for the first time since lockdown. #ODP
At one point we had the McGrath, glide scope and fibre optic scope in use, we’re lucky to have the kit we need to provide the best outcomes for our patients on a daily basis (5)
Early start today, I’m the long day acutes ODP. We’re starting with an ortho case and then.......! Love the unpredictable nature of acutes. As an ODP we work with the anaesthetist to keep the list running, looking at staffing, availability of kit (1)
A bit if a day of it today! Not had to pull a crash buzzer in years, today....twice! Unexpected complications, but once again ODPs showed their ability to cope in an emergency situation. 3 anaesthetist and 3 ODPs all pushing for the best patient outcome (4)
We’re following up with a full frontal remodelling, Instantaneous results, parents can see the change we are making. this is why I enjoy this list #PatientCare
Today I am doing my favourite list, craniofacials. It is a true collaborative list, theatre and anaesthesia, neuro, plastics and max fax CSUs coming together for patient care (1)
We are starting with springs in today, which uses the counter pressure of the spring to remodel the skull. Much more less invasive than the Re-modelling we used to do #clinicaladvancement (2)
@lj_autumn In practice it is meaning that our patients may only undergo 1 surgical procedure, as the intraop scan can show if any further rumour can be resected. Before this we would operate, close and then scan, meaning if any tumour was left a 2nd operation was required.
Today I am doing neuro surgery, using our intraoperative MRI system. This provides accurate and clear images to aid surgery, providing better outcomes for patient care (1)
That’s my training done today, so I’m
making my way around the dept doing tea breaks. Doesn’t happen everyday, but it’s nice to be able to let the team get a little break #TeamworkMakesTheDreamwork (3)
Today I am on a virtual study day, band 6 progression. This is the first session since February, for obvious reasons. It’s great that my trust is wanting to invest in staff and provide the opportunity to progress (1)
A bit of a late finish today, not what you want on your first day back, but the case got done and that’s the main thing. Having a good work/life balance is important for me, putting my child to bed on a night is part of our routine 🧒
