And in terms of raises, it'll still be slightly over 1% offered. That Ford will freeze MPP salaries is of little consequence, given he already made most of his MPPs parliamentary assistsnts which adds $ 16K to their salary (or almost 11.5%)

Just last month, when the Ford govt tabled its budget, it said the province was running a $13.5 B *deficit* for 2021-22 (fiscal year that ended in March.)
Today we learned the govt actually ran a *surplus* of $2.1B.
That's a $15 B difference in a few weeks.

As soon as I sent that, I realized: Ford will argue it has to be used to pay down the deficit he inherited from the Liberals four years ago. A wealth transfer, plain and simple.

New: further to my story yesterday, Long Term Care Minister admits hospitals will be able to bill patients thousands of $/wk if they refuse to go to LTC chosen for them. New legislation allows a placement co-ordinator to "authorize admission to a home "with or without consent."
