It's Volunteers' Week! We'd like to give a huge shout out and thank you to all volunteers at the Friends of Wombwell Cemetery.
To the volunteers who help out in the cemetery or do the hidden background stuff that makes the group run efficiently, we THANK YOU!

PSA: HELP THE BIRDS!
The RSPB have issued new bird feeding guidance to protect birds from a highly contagious disease called trichomonosis. Please don't feed the birds in the cemetery from 1st May to 31st October.
We completed a second, much bigger litter pick yesterday afternoon and picked three more bags of rubbish! That's five full bags picked over the past few days!!
We found some interesting things on the litter pick, but most common items were what we call 'cemetery-norms'*. 1/2
PS - Not sure why the 'Made with AI' tag, unless the Keep Britain Tidy graphic was made that way. As a group, we won't use AI for our promotional material. Canva is our best friend for posters and graphics!😁
Yesterday we made a start on our Great British Spring Clean pledge. We had to pick around the hard-working grass cutters, so we'll be back soon to collect some more rubbish! Help us out and make sure to throw your litter in the bins provided.

We have just attended the unveiling for Mark Jones’ memorial stone on Wombwell High Street. It’s amazing to see something permanent to commemorate the life of Mark, and we’re thankful to everybody involved!

Remembering Mark Jones
On 6 February 1958, a charter plane crashed after refuelling in Munich. The accident claimed the lives of 23 people, including eight Manchester United players and three officials. We will never forget.

We're taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch!
Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey, helping to build a picture of how garden birds are faring. We're taking part in the cemetery to see how our numbers are.

It's National Squirrel Appreciation Day!
If you're in the cemetery today, show the squirrels some love. Be respectful, don't chase them, and bring them a handful of peanuts! 😄

Thank you very much to High View Primary for attending our Remembrance Service again this year. The children were fantastic and the wreaths are absolutely lovely. ❤️🌹
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Take a moment of silence at 11am to reflect, be thankful, and remember.
