FOWODE further assesses the extent to which selected Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) comply with the Public Finance Management Act, which requires gender and equity considerations to be integrated into government plans and budgets.
We continue to analyse government plans and budgets from a gender and equity perspective, examining whether policies, programmes and resource allocations respond to the different needs of women, men, boys and girls, including those who face particular barriers or disadvantages.
We are recognised for breaking new ground in Gender Responsive Budgeting. We have advocated for the integration of gender & equity considerations into government planning & budgeting, contributing to important reforms that promote more inclusive & responsive public financing.

Women are increasingly harnessing the power of collective action and becoming more aware of their civic rights, enabling them to effectively engage in and influence governance processes.
Our conscientisation work is invaluable to our strategic direction. At its core, we seek to empower individuals, especially women, to recognise their power to influence change through participation in leadership and decision-making processes and dialogue with their leaders.

Women’s leadership begins long before taking a seat at the table. It grows through access to knowledge, opportunities, networks and spaces where voices are valued. Imara envisions a space where women and girls can learn, grow and lead.

Providing targeted training for women in leadership is one way of enabling more women to influence decision-making. Through effective legislative training, we support women to strengthen their legislative & oversight roles and contribute to policies that advance gender equality.

Through their leadership and collective action, women are also better positioned to hold leaders accountable, influence public decisions and champion issues that advance gender equality and social justice.
Thru our capacity-building work, more women are boldly pushing boundaries driven by the values of social justice & gender equality. With greater knowledge & skills, they are finding their voice, asserting their agency, taking up leadership roles & influencing decisions at all levels
We have trained & strengthened the capacities of over 30,000 women leaders to navigate the political landscape, strengthen their leadership & amplify their influence, contributing to an increase in laws and policies that better reflect the priorities and needs of women and girls.

What happens when a project ends, but the need remains?
The Imara Women’s Centre is envisioned to bridge that gap. A space where women and girls can continue to access knowledge, build networks, learn and participate.
Because some work is too important to end with a project.
The Imara Women’s Centre is envisioned as a lasting space that carries the work beyond projects, preserving knowledge, nurturing new voices and creating opportunities for women and girls to learn, organize, create and lead.
Because the work must continue.
