The FPL Bois
FPL is not just about strategy, stats, and eye test. It’s also about how you react to your good/bad scores, OR, mini league rank etc.
In the past, FPL used to affect my mood more than it does these days. I believe it’s a conscious effort on my part that has helped me and I wanted to share some of the things I have done.
- Realizing that this game is not all about skill but also about a lot of luck is the first step. Most engaged managers I see on Twitter make mostly reasonable decisions and then it’s most luck that decides the rank between them. Can you genuinely tell me one of Maddison, Sterling, and Foden was a lot better than the others? There could be slight gap between them and it all comes down to personal takes as well. I preferred Maddison and there are very good managers I respect who thought Sterling was better. It is what it is. Accept the luck factor in this game. It’s huge.
- I don’t know if you care about the top 10k talk. I just don’t. I think it’s an old parameter being used in the game which has moved on for some time. The game has increased to 11m players now. Maybe 10k made sense when 1/2m managers were playing, but not now. If you keep on believing that you must get 10k rank you will need a lot of luck and that’s not in your control.
- Focusing on the next week: In 21-22 season I stopped checking my rank. I only checked my rank after the season was over. Wrote an article on this topic for @FFScout. I stopped checking EO as well. I thought rank and EO was affecting my decision making and mood. I just made the best decision for the next week. That whole thing taught me to focus on next week decision without worrying too much about last week rank. Now I check my weekly rank, but only after the GW is over. Live rank doesn’t help with your decisions. Why check that then?
- Something @FMLFPL pod mentioned recently. Recognize who you are as a person. Do you get immense happiness when you choose a differential and that player does well or do you get proper sad when you choose a differential and it doesn’t work out? Play the game that suits your personality.
- Remember that it’s a game which has a huge luck factor in it. Accept it. Then enjoy the game. Very likely you started to play this game because you are a football fan. This is a beautiful game. FPL allows us to get connected to parts of football that we wouldn’t connect to otherwise.
- Last thing I would mention is I have met many wonderful people on Twitter because of FPL. I have made friends. I have regular interactions with them. I am truly grateful. And this is all because of FPL.
I hope this is helpful at least for just one person. This is a topic that is important to me. I have written about all these before.
Probably will be the most painful benching in FPL for me this season
>BIG differential
>12 FUCKING POINTS
>Klopp being a knobhead bringing in Darwin for absolutely no reason(and of course screwed my auto sub)

Some advice given how noisy #FPL twitter is with reactionary hot takes:
Don't get to high on the highs or too low on the lows.
No one is a genius for starting well, and no one is an idiot for a average/slow start.
Keep a balanced outlook, stay patient and trust your process.
I'm back with some #Tableau vizzes. For this season, I'm visualising player stats again for #FPL!
Find any player and see how they're performing week to week in terms of xG, playing time, etc.
Yes, it will update every GW and its designed for mobile: https://t.co/gtiZRxzNfR
Here’s our favourite takeaways from the weekend.
And no, we're not including the tikka masala.. or the doner kebab.
We mean the FPL ones from Gameweek 1 that you can use in your group-chats to sound like a genius.
