When is Salah expected to return from his injury?
Summarising the available information to formulate a hypothesis:
Injury Timeline:
- January 18th: Salah sustains a hamstring injury against Ghana.
- January 19th: Egypt FA announces Salah will miss two AFCON matches.
- January 21st: The Egyptian FA states that after additional examinations Salah will return to England after the Cape Verde match (22nd January) for further treatment.
- January 22nd: Salah's agent mentions a 21-28 day recovery period, likely based on examinations conducted on January 21st.
Return Timelines (from January 21st):
- February 11th: Potential return after 21 days (The AFCON Final date)
- February 18th: Maximum recovery period of 28 days.
Considering these timelines (assuming no setbacks):
Salah will likely miss:
- GW24: 100%
- AFCON Final: 87.5% (20.6% chance Egypt reaches the final, according to @We_Global )
- DGW25 vs Brentford: 12.5%
- DGW25 vs Luton: 0%
If Double Gameweek 25 is announced, Liverpool faces a quick turnaround:
- February 17th: vs Brentford
- February 21st/22nd: vs Luton
- February 25th: Carabao Cup Final vs Chelsea
Personal view:
I don't expect Salah to start all three of these matches due to the risk of re-injury in hamstring injuries. Klopp might instead target the Carabao Cup Final for Salah's return. Nonetheless, adopting a flexible approach appears to be the optimal strategy, enabling you to bring in Salah for GW25 if his expected minutes improve. This requires avoiding choosing either Jota or Darwin until GW25, if, like me, you consider TAA essential for DGW25.
My estimated playing time assumptions:
- GW25 vs Brentford: 0-30 mins
- GW25 vs Luton: ~ 60 mins (to regain sharpness for the final)
- Carabao Cup Final: 90 mins and beyond
If these assumptions hold true, it might be advisable to consider avoiding Salah for the Double Gameweek, considering the low xMins, blank in GW26 and the high probability of a blank in GW29. Especially if Haaland is back fit and provides a great captaincy alternative.

I did some investigation on the Haaland situation, this is what I have found…
🔹 Pep said Haaland was expected back at the club on Thursday (today)
🔹 Haaland was pictured a few times in Marbella, Spain, this week (📸 image 1)
🔹 Haaland posted a selfie on his instagram stories at 4pm UK time (📸 image 2)
🔹 The logo for Aviapartner airplane maintenance is seen in the background, so presumably he was at an airport
🔹 Aviapartner do not operate in the UK, but do operate at both the Malaga and Seville airports (both near to Marbella), so presumably Haaland was still in Spain at 4pm (📸 image 3)
🔹 A private flight from Malaga to Manchester departed shortly after the selfie was taken (📸 image 4)
🔹 This flight is due to arrive at 7pm UK time, so Haaland has missed training today
🔹 Haaland will have a maximum of one full training session on Friday before Man City play on Saturday
🔹 This will also limit Pep’s opportunity to give a useful update on Haaland in his press conference tomorrow
🔹 Presumably, a one day delay in the original schedule lessens the chances of Haaland being ready for Saturday - though this is just conjecture
This is all I have found. If you have anything else, feel free to share!
