Went with this for GW1, s/o Pras. Had been convinced of BB1 over BB2 for a while out of preference for 1) not putting all my BB eggs in the Coventry basket, 2) getting the chip out of the way immediately to minimize risk, and 3) BB1 drafts always looking more exciting to me than BB2 drafts.

No Bruno became No Haaland approx 1 week before the Community Shield. The decision on whether I wanted to draft for WC3 or leave myself open to FH3 came down to the final day. Played around A LOT with what a stochastically optimal draft would look like using Solio’s % branches. Ultimately I had an easier time picturing Isak’s ceiling than Palmer’s, especially going without Wirtz, who had been in 60% of my drafts.

8 players had been virtual locks for me the last couple days:
Bruno, Mbeumo, Szoboszlai, Tzolis, João Pedro, Isak, DCL, Calafiori

The final 7 spots were in flux right up to the deadline:
Raya vs White — was never going to go Gabriel, wanted to spread those funds on BB — ended up being too drawn to the upside of White with the negative Timber update, Saka being back, Konsa transfer not affecting GW1, and a general belief that Arsenal will be more expressive. Lammens vs Maguire — again, I liked the upside here with slabhead but also seeing him in so many content creators’ teams gave me FOMO.

I got cold feet on Ndiaye due to his still ongoing transfer rumors, making his projections as the top 6.0 moot to me. So that spot became a decision between ELF or Semenyo, which would impact another dependency on whether or not I could afford O’Reilly. I knew I wanted one City player going No Haaland, and I REALLY like O’Reilly. His positioning as a second striker is insane, and I see the priority of Maresca’s instructions for him. But, the combination of 1) uncertainty on his minutes + 2) Doku’s injury putting Semenyo back at LW + 3) I could never quite pick a keeper/defense setup that felt like the right use of funds (always having £0.5m or £1.0m left over). Normally I’d roll with that kind of flexibility, but on early WC it felt like an inefficient allocation. On top of that, the O’Reilly draft + White + Maguire had me dropping one of Ballard (2nd best 5.0 on WC3 after Maguire) or Neco Williams (in 99% of my drafts), and that didn’t sit quite right with me. Was also very Muharemović and Palestra curious for different reasons.

Passing on both Raya and Lammens, who had been my BB1 keepers in 80% of my drafts (admittedly I didn’t love the idea of carrying a 5.0 keeper or benching a 6.0 keeper in GW2), Solio and Review pointed me to Roefs. Scherpen I saw as nothing more than a quasi-FH1 keeper, so I was never going to go there. And as for Kinsky, I think I’ll pick him on early WC, but with the news on Van de Ven and Porro being out, I was even more put off him for GW1, not to mention the lower EV than Verbruggen. And I knew a lot of engaged managers would have one of Verbruggen or De Cuyper.

On 26 points after the first game is a dream start.
