Today, we started our @FPS_Computing unit on coding. We will be designing and making our own game so we conducted some research into the types of games we could make and had a go at playing them.

Year 5 have been creating fact files about their favourite animals. Thanks to their improved formatting skills, they look great. 😃🖥️

They then presented their knowledge with a Puppet Pals animation. Ask them how to stay safe online. 😎💻

Year Three have been writing 'binary questions' to organise their own branching database about animals. 🤯

Year 2 have been learning what a digital footprint is and how to ensure they only post safe information about themselves online.

Reception have also been learning how to type the vowels using a keyboard. They had to match the lower case letter on the screen with an upper case letter on the keyboard.⌨️💻

Reception have been programming robots to follow instructions in sequence.

Year 3 have been using pre-populated databases to play a ‘Guess Who’ type game. They have taken a tally of the number of questions they asked their friends and had to ask clever questions to minimise the number of questions asked.

Year 1 have been making a ‘Magic Number Machine’ using spreadsheet software. It counts the number of items placed in different coloured boxes. Tricky stuff! 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣🔴🔵🟢

Year 5 have been downloading images free from copyright in order to make an animal fact file on Microsoft Word. 🐶🦁🐒🐷🦉🐴

Year 4 tested themselves on their knowledge of a computer’s hardware. They identified the component and peripheral parts. 🥳

Year 4 have been taking apart old desktop computers to identify the components inside. 🪛🔩💻

There will be two parent computing sessions before the summer holidays: Session 1 - Mini/Purple Mash; supporting the wider curriculum 11/7/23, 3.15pm Session 2 - Coding 18/7/23, 3.15pm. Upper school hall. Some Y6 children will support and we hope you can join us.

Year 5 have been learning how to appropriately format Word documents to make it easier for the reader to read. They did a great job. 💻

Year 6 have been looking at alternative endings to Little Red Riding Hood as a model for how to create their own adventure story. They planned one this week and will make their own story next week. 🐺

Year 3 have been compiling data from their class about our homes. They put this information into various pictograms. 📊🏠

Year 2 have been safe searching using Purple Mash. We discussed how Purple Mash is made for children and doesn’t link to the wider World Wide Web.

Reception used Purple Mash for the first time to practice typing numbers. 😃1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣

Year 2 have been compiling great fact files about Rosa Parks.
