794 bodies recovered. Thousands still unaccounted for. Tell us, what was their crime?

I am writing this from the Himalayas from a country responsible for only around 0.1% of global greenhouse-gas emissions. Nearly 46% of our land is covered by forests. Around 94% of our installed electricity capacity comes from hydropower. We are rapidly moving away from fossil-fuel vehicles too: EVs accounted for about 74% of Nepal’s four-wheeled passenger vehicle imports in 2025/26. We protect forests. We generate electricity from our rivers. We are embracing electric mobility at a pace few countries in the world have matched. Yet today, our people are digging through mud, searching rivers and waiting beside phones for the names of their loved ones.

The Bhote Koshi flash flood has shown us what it means to live beneath a rapidly changing cryosphere. Our glaciers are retreating, our frozen mountains are becoming increasingly unstable, and the rivers that generate our clean electricity can also carry destruction into communities below. We did not build our prosperity by burning generations of coal and oil. We contributed almost nothing to creating the climate crisis at this scale. But we are being forced to survive its consequences. The people whose bodies are being pulled from rivers did not cause this crisis. The families still waiting for thousands of missing people did not cause it. The children, farmers, workers and mountain communities who lost everything did not cause it.

So from the Himalayas, we ask the industrialised world: how many Himalayan bodies will be enough? How many mothers must wait for children who never return? How many villages must disappear before “climate justice” becomes more than a speech at another conference? Do not come to us only with sympathy after the bodies have been counted. Come with responsibility. Come with climate finance, adaptation, loss-and-damage support and the courage to cut emissions at the scale this emergency demands. We want climate justice. We want the right to survive in our own mountains. We want a world where being born in the Himalayas is not a death sentence for a crisis we did not create.

HEY DOG LOVERS

All you Dog lovers are shouting hoarse about injustice to dogs regarding the Supreme Court’s order. But where were they when a four-year-old child was brutally killed in broad daylight on the streets ..Likewise thousands get attacked every year

Where was your compassion then? Or is compassion reserved only for those with wagging tails while dead children don’t count?

And yes, there is nothing wrong with loving dogs. I love them too. But love your dogs in your own homes, in your luxury bungalows , in your manicured lawns. Love your imported Labradors, your pedigreed Huskies, your high-breed pets bought from breeders and hire staff to look after them

But the truth is this: the dog menace does not exist in your lavish villas. It prowls in the streets and slums. It stalks the alleys where the poor live, where children play barefoot, where no gates or fences protect them. While the privileged stroke their glossy pets, the powerless are left to tend to the wounded and bury their loved ones .

You talk about dog rights. Fine. But what about the child’s rights? The right to live. The right of his parents to see him grow. Do those rights vanish because you love dogs ? Do those rights matter less than your Instagram photos of you cuddling your own pedigreed pets?

Here is the truth you don’t want to hear: compassion without balance is injustice . If you truly love dogs, then adopt them, feed them, and protect them in your secure homes. Or force the government to come up with solutions . But don’t burden the streets with your love , where it turns into the death of someone else’s child.

The poor should not pay with their blood for the sentimental indulgence of the rich.

And realise this truth that a society that values the life of a stray dog over the life of a child has already lost its humanity.

The ones who step out of their posh flats straight into luxury cars, chauffeured from film sets to bars, discos, clubs or their husband’s cricket matches, have no business preaching about street dogs to the people who actually face them.

Your staged, PR-friendly photos with a stray are worth nothing. You’ll never be bitten because you’ll never set foot alone in the streets. You’ll never watch your child get mauled. You’ll never die of rabies.

So keep your hollow morality to yourself and stop lecturing those who live with the threat every single day.

After the SC, the Rajasthan HC has also ordered the launch of a special campaign to clear stray dogs and other animals from city streets.

The Court empowered municipal officials to file FIRs against anyone who hinders their duties.

The judiciary seems to have made up its mind, and soon we’re likely to see more state High Courts issuing similar rulings.

This is the only way this could have happened, the judiciary. For decades, govt and irresponsible dog feeders have ignored the plight of common people and allowed the problem to grow this large. Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan, what you guys did is not easy. Thank you if you are reading this.
