Walahi, if 3 people are serious about making their first ₦1M before the end of the year, forget trying to find ₦1M clients in Nigeria. Go after dollar-paying clients. At roughly ₦1,500/$, you only need around $670 to cross ₦1M. That could be one $700 project, two $350 projects, four $175 projects, or a combination of smaller projects.

The easiest way I’d approach it is to build a 3-man sales squad. Pick ONE service that businesses already pay for, then split the work. Person 1 handles cold email, researching companies, finding decision-makers and sending personalized emails. Person 2 focuses on Upwork, searching for relevant jobs and sending quality proposals. Person 3 handles LinkedIn and Instagram, finding founders, marketing managers and business owners, connecting with them and starting conversations.

Then all three of you jump on Google Meet together every day for 3-4 hours and lock in. If you're broke, contribute money together for internet, necessary tools and anything else you genuinely need. You don't need an office. You need laptops, good internet, reliable electricity, Google Meet, a good offer and three people who are actually ready to work.

When one person gets a client, the work doesn't necessarily have to be done by that person alone. You can split the workload between yourselves based on everyone's strengths. One person can handle strategy, another can execute, another can handle research, reporting or QA. The client doesn't necessarily need to know that three of you are working behind the scenes. What matters is that the person they hired communicates properly, the agreed work gets done and the quality is consistently good. Don't lie about your team if a client asks directly, but you don't need to turn your internal workflow into the main selling point.

And don't only think about one-off projects. Try to convert good clients into monthly retainers. Instead of getting paid $300 once and starting from zero again, you could offer an ongoing service for $300-$500+ per month depending on the work. Two $400/month clients is $800 every month. Three people can share the workload and keep prospecting for the next client while maintaining the existing accounts.

Create one Google Sheet and track every prospect: company, contact, platform, date contacted, response, follow-up date and status. Set daily targets. Something like 30-50 targeted cold emails, 10-15 strong Upwork proposals and 20-30 LinkedIn/Instagram outreaches between the team. Follow up with people who don't respond. A lot of clients won't reply to the first message.

Your process should be simple: find businesses with a problem, identify the person who can pay you to solve it, reach out, start a conversation, get on a call, close the project, deliver extremely well, then ask about continuing the work on a monthly basis.

But this only works if the three of you actually have the infrastructure and discipline for it. Good internet. Reliable electricity. Laptops that can handle the work. Clear communication. And most importantly, all three people need to be ready to lock in. If one person disappears every other day, doesn't respond to clients or doesn't do their part, the whole system falls apart.

Don't spend the next three months preparing, taking courses and redesigning your CV. Learn what you need while you're prospecting. The goal is not to look busy. The goal is to create conversations with people who have money and a problem you can solve. Three people consistently doing this can generate hundreds of opportunities. You don't need everyone to say yes. You just need enough people to say yes.

1. Always have it at the back of your mind that rent is due every day. This gives you a sense of financial urgency.

2. Learn how to say NO and mean it. Disappoint as many people as you can, especially people who wouldn’t come through for you. They’ll be fine, with or without you, I promise.

3. Whenever money enters your hand, if you are on a budget, cook stew and soup. You’ll be able to rough it with those until your next credit alert.

4. Cultivate the habit of saving money, no matter how little. If you save ₦20k monthly, that’s ₦240k in a year. Use Renmoney or any reputable fintech platform. They offer 22% interest yearly. I know this because I use them.

5. Buy data in bulk. In fact, buy foodstuff and groceries in bulk. You are spending more to save even more during rainy days.

6. It is not just enough that you save; find a way to use your money to earn more passively. No matter how much you have, if you don’t make more money, you’ll go broke.

7. Deep down, you know you don’t NEED a new gadget. You only WANT a new one. Put that money to good use until you can comfortably afford your frivolities.

8. There’s no shame in saying you cannot afford something. No go use shame chest billing for where you suppose use scope disembark from the settings.

9. Leave Instagram vendors alone. Buy all your clothes from SHEIN and TEMU. You, in fact, get better quality for less. You’ll see quality wears between ₦7–20k there.

10. Don’t date. I won’t explain further.

11. They’ll whine you, but I promise you, cooking will always be cheaper than eating out. Always remember that there is rice at home.

12. Take number four seriously. You are not too broke to save.

13. You live in a poor country. If you already have a Spotify subscription, you don’t need Apple Music. If you have Prime Video, you don’t need Netflix. In fact, split subscriptions with your friends and share logins.

Let’s look at a few FACTS, comparing the JAPA life to the Nigeria life.

An average full time worker in Nigeria works a minimum of 40-50hrs per week and earns an average of ₦200K, while a JAPA student works a max of 20hrs per week and earns €800-1000.

I can use €20-30 to stock up groceries that will last me a week, but in Nigeria I will need a minimum of ₦100-150K for same.

I pay €49 monthly for my regional ticket that I use for train, tram, and bus around Austria, but a Nigerian will need 35-45% of his salary for transportation alone in a month.

I pay €78 monthly for health insurance that gives me access to same health care your President and Top men scamper to get abroad, but an average Nigerian can go bankrupt with just one health scare.

I can decide to take a walk around 2am midnight and not be scared of anything, but the average Nigerian can’t confidently move around in broad daylight without fear for his safety.

As a student I can travel to 29 countries without a VISA on a 3-day vacation and I won’t need to spend more than 15% of my income, but an average Nigerian can’t afford to go to Kenya 🇰🇪 for a 3-day vacation.

Let’s not talk about stable electricity, the quality of air I breathe here, the infrastructure, and all round quality of life.
