Minister @BihiEgeh opened IMF staff visit review of #Somalia’s economic reform program with the IMF in Jeddah. Over the next four days, discussions will focus on domestic revenue mobilization, strengthening PFM, deepening the financial sector, and accelerating economic growth.

- He has been Al-Shabaab head of Finance wing and is believed to be the mastermind behind extortion and
looting that al-Shabaab carries out.
- He played a key role in the payment
of salaries to the group’s fighters, as well as in the theft and extortion of public and private property, which the group uses to finance violence and atrocities against Somali civilians.
- Previous he been assigned to
various titles including being responsible for Zakat collection in Banadir and Middle Shabelle Regions.
- His last post was serving as head of the finance wing of the terrorist organization.

I chaired the 26th Horn of Africa Initiative (@hoainitiative) Ministerial Meeting on the sidelines of the @WorldBank and @IMFNews Annual Meetings in #WashingtonDC. Our discussions centered on promoting shared prosperity and strengthening regional integration through coordinated investments and policies that uplift communities across the Borderlands.

Mogadishu, 22 June 2025,The National Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NAMLC) convened its ordinary meeting today to discuss the outcomes of Somalia's mutual evaluation process and the ongoing assessment of terrorism financing risks.
Following extensive discussions, the committee issued directives to competent authorities concerning several key areas, which includes the preparation of a comprehensive action plan, specifically designed to address the gaps identified in the report. This plan would outline clear steps, timelines, and responsibilities of all AML/CFT competent authorities to ensure that these deficiencies are effectively and timely remedied.
The initiative raised awareness and built knowledge, encouraging youth to collaborate and actively participate in the implementation of the Terrorist Financial Disruption Strategy in Somalia
The Financial Reporting Center (FRC) recently conducted a public awareness campaign for Somali youth to understand and combat the financing of terrorism in Somalia.
Over 200 young people participated in the campaign, which aimed to strengthen and empower them to play an active role in countering the financing of terrorism.
MENAFATF Adopts Somalia’s Technical Compliance Report
The 40th Plenary Meeting of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force(MENAFATF),held in Amman, Jordan, officially adopted Somalia’s technical compliance report as part of its mutual evaluation on 7 May 2025
The mutual evaluation process began in 2023 and concluded in 2025, during which Somalia demonstrated notable progress in strengthening its legal, regulatory, and institutional frameworks to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
The adoption of the report marks a significant milestone for Somalia, reflecting its commitment to aligning with international standards. Somalia is now expected to address the remaining gaps identified in the technical compliance report in line with FATF procedures
I had a fruitful meeting with Vincent D. Spera, the Deputy Assistant Secretary Bureau of African Affairs @StateDept during the #SpringMeetings in #WashingtonDC. We discussed the ongoing counterterrorism operations and the fight against international terrorism in #Somalia, revenue mobilization and our governments plans for growing the Somali economy. The USA is a valuable partner in our national development journey.
