@BillKristol there was always plenty of overlap between liberalism and conservatism but after 30 years of fox news newspeak, much of the formerly conservative audience has bamboozled itself into adopting illiberalism
There’s among us an epidemic of faux-nuance that functions almost like an autoimmune disease. It comes not from a real effort to see a situation from as many angles as possible, but from a marketing campaign to brand oneself as “different”. Its final form is Piers Morgan.
I’ve noticed that highly intelligent people are now more than ever blinded to just how stupid our current world is. A completely insane frothing-at-the-mouth gremlin can be right in front of their face, and their first instinct is to find a contrarian take about why it’s fine.
@david_helgason I find it interesting and weird that, when vibe coding, it will often forget about bugs it earlier repaired and reintroduce them into the code.
As of now, Gemini 3 is my favorite vibe coding assistant. It seems to make the least amount mistakes for me.
@david_helgason@alfredoparrah To think there’s more to it than that is ironically the LLM in our heads spitting out ungrounded nonsense with pure next token prediction, with the feeling that it is grounded.
@david_helgason@alfredoparrah To the extent that LLM consciousness is different than my own, I gleam from their behavior and their perceptual differences. But when it comes to “what it’s really like to be an an LLM” we’re at the same bedrock solipsistic purgatory as what it means to be a bat or other people.
@david_helgason@alfredoparrah And there’s a weird bias in the language-game of so-called “phenomenal consciousness” where in that game I AND ONLY I am CERTAIN to be conscious. And yet *we* (huh?) play that game with AI with a double standard upon a performative contradiction.
@david_helgason@alfredoparrah I always like to dust off my Wittgenstein books to be reminded that ‘consciousness’ has its meaning(s) in how it’s used in language. For *most* uses, current LLMs pass as conscious. But we’re still too stupid and think there’s one definition to rule them all, as it were.

@david_helgason@XclusionZone “From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!”
Sometimes, Anakin, yes, you’re just lost. Whatever sins the Jedi committed, whatever fuck up Mace Windu made, whatever hypocritical thing Yoda said, I don’t want to hear “unpopular takes” on Emperor Palpatine’s galactic ballroom. Thnx
@david_helgason@XclusionZone I will not tolerate General Jack D. Ripper sending B52 bombers to Russia to protect his precious bodily fluids. If you have an “unpopular take” on anything even remotely positive about that, you are lost.
