LOTS going on!

1️⃣ Macmillan has started shipping some graphic novels early to get a head start, the 18th is our full on shipping day but I gave the thumbs up to do what they got to do. We’re officially entering the NO SPOILER zone for a bit. There’s so much I want to talk about, but neither the official Final Space channels nor I will be posting spoilers until all pre-orders are out. I'm only going to only be retweet or post any posts that keep it vague or are general feelings. :)

2️⃣ New tour dates dropping Monday!
Atlanta, Salt Lake City, and hopefully Ottawa! (Jam Filled is looking into renting a theater to screen episodes for the event.) Also Nashville, Awake Awake might be doing a live set!

3️⃣ This pop-up I got made for tour is SO cool haha. I had to order two sets of everything for the tour, to ensure I have a safety but also so I can taper shipping them out to events.

4️⃣ I’ll post a video Monday explaining how to read the book alongside the soundtrack. We intentionally let some songs run longer, so when you hit a QR code, scan it right away, even if another track is still playing. When it lands, it REALLY lands. it's really fun to read it with the soundtrack.

5️⃣ I’m updating the commentary section in the back of the book this weekend, there's a few things in there already. Originally I planned audio commentary only, but I figured out how to make a playlist of videos instead, which works way better.

6️⃣ “1000” the first digital expansion in the back of the book is DONE and available Day 1. The others are still in progress. Daz is coming back from a much-needed holiday and wrapping another graphic novel before jumping back in. These expansions will release in layers to keep the story going in some areas I thought would be fun to explore. “1000” alone is 30 pages…and it rips.

7️⃣ Midnight and Color editions are shipping at the same time, yes but we’ll be slower than Macmillan distribution. We’re packing things differently, and they simply have a bigger team and facility.

Happy Final Space Monday! LOTS to prepare for the launch of the novel! Recording the commentary tonight. Retesting the soundtrack. I’m flying out to Virginia this Thursday to see the novels arrive.
I’m actively booking the tour; I decided to stop waiting on Regal Theaters. At a certain point, you’ve just got to say, “screw it, we’re doing this ourselves.”

I wanted to drop the dates for first 5 locations (Nashville, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, and Dallas) today… buuuuut I literally just got dates for 3 more spots moments ago. So instead, I’m going to wait until Friday to announce as many as possible. By then, I should hear back from another 6. It’s exciting. More this week! -Olan

Olan Rogers was able to get the entire season 3, thanks to a fan, and had to watch his project disappear from existence, having to call a lawyer to see if Final Space had a sequel (and if possible, now the graphic novel will be out this spring)

We’re deep in book tour planning right now while we wait for the graphic novels to land in Virginia.

Normally a publisher handles all of this but as you know it's just me and @gungnirbooks has been a huge help on that front.
Right now it’s shaping up to be a June tour.

This week has been all about the logistics of getting these books into your hands. I had a big meeting with the Virginia distribution team where we walked through everything…how to transfer our data into their system, packaging options, shipping timelines, confirmation processes… the list goes on.

The great news? These guys are pros. Nothing phased them. By the end of that call, soooo much stress lifted off my shoulders. There’s still plenty on my plate, but it was such a relief to have a team this experienced, and genuinely excited to help, in our corner.

On top of that, Matthew at @gungnirbooks has been making moves…he connected with a major comic book chain on the East Coast that’s going to carry the novel and even host some signings for the book tour.

I can feel the excitement starting to creep in to me. Honestly, that hasn’t been easy. From day one, this project has mostly been stress…. But with Final Space, it’s never been a smooth ride…it never has been. What’s always carried me through is the gratitude I feel getting to tell this story… and getting to share it with all of you.

I’m not kidding when I say there were days where the only fuel I had left was reading your excitement. So truly, thank you for hanging in there with me!

There’s still more to figure out, but now we’re in a waiting phase as the books make their way to distribution in Virginia.

HAPPY FINAL SPACE FRIDAY!

Took a few pictures to compare Black & White vs. the Color Edition side-by-side. I thought it was cool.

I’ve unpacked 3 pallets of Midnight Editions so far… 5 more to go. It’s a process but it’s helping this side get a head start plus I like to do all jobs so I understand how to instruct the workers when they start in March.

The Color Editions are being stickered by hand. It takes a tad longer, but it ensures every single one is placed and not pressed. We’re also adding page spacers inside the front and back covers a small extra layer of protection to keep them safe on the long journey ahead.

These ship to distribution in about a week and a half, and from there it takes about 4½ weeks to arrive. Once they land, unboxing begins. I’m not sure how long that will take but I’m trying to find out.

We are incredibly close now. Close to the finish line. Close to these being in your hands.

I’m currently very sick 🤒I think it's from the air quality of the warehouse so I just ordered air scrubbers and fans to get some air moving in there. The dehumidifier is rocking, that is helps keeping any moisture off the novels. BUT before I went down, I started photographing the novels and for the first time ever, I realized…I actually have a novel I can photograph. That was a surreal moment. Still have a bunch more to capture, but I’ll post a few soon. The goal is to really show off how hard @daztibbles went on this art. The colors pop. It’s vibrant. It feels like Final Space.

I read through the color version last night while doing another round of soundtrack testing, and it just keeps getting better. We're getting the length in a good spot, we made the tracks extra long so they bleed into the next QR code. When it lines up perfectly? It’s SO cool. Seriously. It hits.

We just had a soundtrack meeting to tweak a few sounds to really punch the emotion in some key scenes. It’s those little adjustments that make a big difference.

Logistics-wise: the novels ship from the printer at the top of March. They are stickering and we had to move the sticker to the back inside cover, I'll explain why in a video later. It’ll take about 4½ weeks to reach the distribution warehouse, and then they’ll start packing and shipping them out to all of you. I don’t have an exact date yet, but it’s looking very much like Spring. I’ll know more once they land at the warehouse.

Right now I’m deep in marketing mode. I’m also unpacking and stickering the Midnight Editions here in Nashville at extra late hours in the night so they’re ready to go when the colors arrive.

I’m also working on a dust jacket idea for damaged novels. Haven't decided anything yet. Once I see how that turns out, I’ll add a “Battle Worn” edition to the store at a discounted price. It’ll range from Level 1 damage to Level 3 (the roughest shape, biggest discount). There's not a lot of them but I just don't know what to do with them. I’ll focus more on that once everything else is under control.
