To earn good money as an artist / touring act you need to understand your finances…

1. get an accountant / business manager.

2. always put money aside for tax.

3. understand what’s tax deductible, as an artist there’s a lot you can claim in clever ways.

4. understand your expenses; commissions, traveling, photographers etc.

5. invest in your project, social media, ads, promo around releases and tours

6. invest in yourself, save money for a house or invest money etc

7. understand every contract you sign and what splits you get and for how long.

8. you will probably take a loss while building your project, but like any business you have to think long term.

9. happy team, happy career. everyone’s got to eat.

10. good luck, it’s hard out there!

Remember - think about what’s more important, a new Rolex or investing back into your project. Priorities will be the thing that makes you financially secure in an industry that is very tough and up / down.
