PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES FLAMINGOS ON HISTORIC FIFA U-17 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP VICTORY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria's Flamingos for making history as the first African team to win the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup following their 2-1 victory over Japan in Saturday's final in Rabat, Morocco.

The President, who received the cheering news upon his return from campaign engagements in Akwa Ibom and Rivers States, hailed Nigeria's maiden triumph as a proud moment for the nation and a landmark achievement for African women's football.

"What wonderful news to return home to! Our young girls have conquered the world and given Nigerians everywhere another reason to celebrate our great country.

"To our gallant Flamingos, I say congratulations. You have shown courage, discipline, determination and the Nigerian spirit of never giving up.

"I followed your journey throughout this tournament, and after your semi-final victory, you promised to bring the trophy home. Today, you have kept that promise. You believed in yourselves, fought for one another and carried our nation's flag to the very top of the world.

The President particularly applauds Awawu Bashiru and Oluebube Umejiaku, whose goals secured the historic victory, while commending the entire squad for their exceptional teamwork throughout the tournament.

He also congratulates the coaching crew, the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Sports Commission for their contributions to the team's success.

President Tinubu reaffirms his administration's commitment to investing in grassroots sports development and expanding opportunities for young Nigerians, particularly girls, to discover, nurture and fulfil their potential.

IN PORT HARCOURT, PRESIDENT TINUBU THANKS MAMMOTH CROWD AT CAMPAIGN RALLY FOR LOYALTY, COMMENDS WIKE, FUBARA RECONCILIATION

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday acknowledged the pivotal role of Rivers State voters in the 2023 presidential election that brought him into office, and sought their renewed backing in the January 16 election to consolidate his administration's gains.

Speaking at a campaign rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, the President commended the large turnout and praised the reconciliation between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The Rainbow Coalition, led by Wike, organised the rally, which brought together political leaders and supporters from across and beyond Rivers State.

President Tinubu said Governor Fubara demonstrated maturity, understanding and respect for the intervention of political elders in resolving the disagreement with his predecessor.

“During the political crisis caused by a misunderstanding in the family, I intervened on your behalf. I thank Governor Fubara, in particular, for his maturity, understanding, and respect for the wisdom of elders when we intervened. Fubara, you will not regret what you have done as long as all of us are alive,” the President said.

Turning to the economy, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration’s reforms were putting the country on the path to prosperity.

He said the Federal Government was addressing inherited liabilities, including unpaid pensions and gratuities, to ensure that more families benefited from economic recovery.

“The people who governed before us left unpaid pensions and gratuities running into billions and trillions of Naira. We are clearing that backlog so that every family is included and we can share in the prosperity,” he stated.

He said outstanding liabilities, like pensions and salaries owed in 27 of the 36 states, had been cleared, and beneficiaries were more certain of monthly payments.

“When those people talk about hunger, remember that I am cleaning up the mess they created. Atiku was one of them. Ask him how he built a private university while in office as Vice President in charge of our economy. Who funded the university for him? It was your money, your effort!” Tinubu noted.

The President questioned the former Vice President’s moral standing for seeking another opportunity to serve in public office.

“A man without moral integrity, latitude, and ethics has no business holding public office,” he added.

President Tinubu also used the occasion to present his manifesto for the 2027 election.

In his remarks, Vice President Kashim Shettima urged political leaders and supporters in Rivers State and across the South-South to support President Tinubu’s re-election, citing the administration’s performance and commitment to the region.

Shettima said the economic indicators were encouraging, with the country’s reserves rising from about $3.9 billion to $60 billion in about three years.

He said former Vice President Abubakar’s economic recommendations should be ignored as he is “intellectually malnourished ", while the NDC candidate, Peter Obi, struggles with “political irrelevance " and “mediocrity”.

Governor Fubara promised to deliver three million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The governor assured the President of his full participation in the Rainbow Coalition and his recognition of the FCT Minister's leadership.

“Under the guidance and leadership of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, we will deliver not less than three million votes for you,” Fubara declared.

Fubara said political supporters from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were working together in harmony under the Rainbow Coalition.

"Let me also state that we are not worried about campaigning. All we are asking the ADC Vice Presidential candidate to do is come and give an account of how he "fumigated" Rivers State. He claimed he fumigated the state so there would be no mosquitoes. But has the mosquito population gone down? Are mosquitoes not still biting you? This is the same man claiming that just as he "fumigated" Rivers State, he will fumigate Nigeria.

We are not worried, all we ask is for accountability. Show us where the foundation is for the specialist hospital project, for which $39 million USD, now worth over 53 billion Naira, was paid. Show us the foundation of the Cardi B White Hospital. I don't need to say much more. January 17 is right around the corner. I can assure you that by 11:00 AM on election day, you will hear them announce that they are pulling out because the election was "rigged."

That is the same pattern he followed in 2015 and 2019 when he served as the Director-General of the APC presidential campaign, where he failed to secure even 15% of the vote.
Today, he stands as a vice presidential candidate, but I do not know where his platform really stands.
