I’ve met with so many families over the years who have longed for education freedom.
And that day has arrived.
Proud to sign school choice into law today.
Texas now empowers parents to choose the school that’s BEST for their child.
GOOD MORNING to those just waking up who want a rundown of the results:
-Trump declared winner around 5:30 a.m. He won Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Wisconsin. Michigan, Arizona, Nevada results TBD but not needed. He will win Alaska (but it's not in yet). He's also doing very well popular vote-wise.
-Republicans took the Senate by picking up seats in West Virginia & Ohio
-Republicans also look likely to hold a majority in the House
-Trump appears to have done quite well among black and Latino men in particular: black men 24% for Trump. Harris performed well with above-$100Ks, lower and middle income brackets went for Trump. Non-college-educated went for Trump, college-educated went for Harris. Parents supported Trump over Harris, gender gap between parents is minimal compared to vast gender gap among single/non-married. (Unmarried women went for Harris in a major way.) Evangelicals + Catholics all went for Trump.
-Trump improved on his 2020 margins in a massive way in pretty much...all??...major metro areas. Manhattan? Brooklyn? Miami? Houston? Chicago? I wonder if crime + inflation fears resulted in more urban Trump support than pollsters realized.
-Harris also was just not a very strong candidate (but you don't need me to tell you that). In quite a few solidly blue states, she should have done better. Biden won New Jersey by +16, she appears to be winning it by +5; Illinois? Biden + 18, Harris +5. (Some are saying maybe a bit of a political reckoning would be prudent, here.)
-Abortion-protecting and -expanding measures were defeated in Florida, South Dakota, and Nebraska; abortion-protecting and -expanding measures succeeded in Arizona, Nevada, and Missouri
-Republican Mike Lawler appears to have won NY 17
-Some high-profile candidates, like Kari Lake in Arizona, do not appear to be winning. Others, like Ted Cruz––who faced a decently strong challenger in Colin Allred––were victorious.
-The Libertarian Party's Chase Oliver has received 0.4 percent of the popular vote so far; he looks set to perform worse than Jo Jorgensen did in 2020 and FAR worse than Gary Johnson did in 2016.
-In Los Angeles, District Attorney George Gascón (a Dem) was defeated by Republican-turned-independent Nathan Hochman
-In San Francisco, more tech-friendly moderate Dems are replacing more radical Dems on the board of supervisors
-Elon Musk keeps jubilantly rocketposting
TLDR: it was a mighty red wave. Don't get mad at me, I'm just the messenger!
The story of the Texas Senate race: Ted Cruz won Latino voters by 6 points, per NBC News exit polls. In his last race in 2018, Cruz *lost* Latinos by 29 points.
A 35-point swing.
@MorganGrahamGOP She clearly struggles with math! Being elected permanent chair on a 90-75 vote means I represent a “minority takeover,” and wife + baby = LCR 🤣
Regarding today’s votes by the SREC, I’m glad they took a strong stand in support of Israel and against antisemitism.
I stand with Israel and, as I have repeatedly made my position abundantly clear, I will not tolerate antisemitism. The values of the Republican Party stand with Israel and condemn antisemitism.
However, the SREC failed today to pass language presented stating “…that the Republican Party of Texas have no association whatsoever with any individual or organization that is known to espouse anti-Semitism, pro-Nazi sympathies, or Holocaust denial.” This language should have been adopted – because I know that is our position as a Party. I am confident that the SREC will correct this at their next meeting – not affirming this language is totally unacceptable to me.
I, and the overwhelming majority of Republicans in Texas, do not tolerate antisemites, and those who deny the Holocaust, praise Hitler or the Nazi regime.
This isn’t officially the position of the @TexasGOP, but it really should be a unanimous statement.
These actions are inexcusable and an embarrassment to the party, the House, and constituents of HD2. #txlege
The following members of the @TexasGOP SREC (constituting a majority of the body) have signed the statement below demanding the immediate resignation (or removal) of @BryanforHD2#txlege
@HortonHearsTx@scottbraddock I thought the concern being raised in that discussion was that we shouldn’t have any strings attached since that’s the language in the LP? But you’re saying we do need some strings since otherwise would be 100% ineffective? Clear as mud
@JillGloverSD12@scottbraddock I’m not sure how “out of context” it is when that’s what’s said on the recording. Either way, would be great for her to clarify whether that’s an appropriate use of funds and apologize for using such a terrible example.
We're seeing very little spread between the statewide candidates to indicate that any Democrat has the space to win a race.
We are calling all the statewide races for Republicans. That's 13 straight sweeps dating back to 1996.
The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.
