McDaniel watched every Herbert game.
JH: "He put together a few hundred play clip presentation. He'd throw in some of our clips where we could've done things better...it was a well put together presentation that I really saw the vision."

Chargers RB coach Max McCaffrey on Omarion Hampton's fit in OC Mike McDaniel's wide zone scheme:
"Omarion's great man. He can fit into any scheme. Just the strength, the size, the athleticism he displays each day in practice. Obviously, I watched him at Chapel Hill, a rival school of mine, but he tore us up a couple times. But it was fun getting to watch him develop and getting to work with him now and seeing how he's adapting to this system-he's doing a great job."
Chargers RT Joe Alt on Mike McDaniel’s outside zone scheme: “There’s a lot of detail in it”
“He’s extremely detailed in how he approaches it…For us it’s been a lot of fun to learn that and develop our skills towards it”
“He’s a fun guy to be around. He’s an exciting guy…He wants this offense to be successful and he wants the best for us.”
Chargers QB Justin Herbert on Mike McDaniel: “It’s been a lot of fun playing for him so far.”
On learning his system: “He’s a great teacher, he’s a great coach…He’s got such a great feel for it.”

Herbert says they’ve watched a lot of Dolphins, 49ers tape.
Chargers C Tyler Biadiasz on OC Mike McDaniel: "He's got it. I remember when we watched film together at my visit. We watched my film and then obviously putting it in perspective of the scheme, the offensive system that they were bringing to LA from Miami. And then we watched Justin Herbert, and we watched his abilities and everything like that."
"The first offensive meeting-All of us O-Linemen we walked out of that meeting-he put like a tape together and he kinda talked through each and every thing. We walked out of that meeting, we were excited, like we were all excited."
Chargers LT Rashawn Slater said, “I've been here since 2021 and still haven't had a playoff win, and I just know what we have. I know what we're capable of. It's time for us to go get it…There’s nothing stopping us. There’s nothing in our way.”
Chargers LT Rashawn Slater on OC Mike McDaniel's outside zone scheme: "I just think outside zone's fun. Honestly if you're an offensive lineman, the rules are to just get off and go destroy everything in your path."
"If that doesn't sound fun, you might not be a lineman."
Chargers LT Rashawn Slater says he expects to be cleared for training camp in a few weeks.
He says he’s not sure if there will be certain limitations placed on him by staff or trainers, but that he ultimately expects to participate in camp.
Justin Herbert said not throwing Tuesday is likely something he’ll do once a week for the next few weeks, using a day to focus on footwork.
Herbert said it was a good opportunity to work on that part of his game, an offseason emphasis under new OC Mike McDaniel, without having to worry about throwing
Mike McDaniel is in Los Angeles to challenge Justin Herbert — to earn his trust, to cultivate improvement and, ultimately, to build a playoff winner.
That process is very much underway.
