Chinese Student Lured to Bangkok for Songkran, Sold to a Myanmar Compound Within 48 Hours
A 19-year-old first-year university student from Guangdong flew from Guangzhou to Bangkok on April 10 for Songkran. Round trip, return booked April 15. She'd been invited by a woman she met online, who had been to Thailand in January.
The friend never showed at the airport. A stranger took her instead. Two days later she was across the Myanmar border in the Three Pagodas area opposite Kanchanaburi, sold into a scam compound. Captors told the family they'd bought her for 29,000 USDT and wanted 30,000 to let her go. They threatened gang rape if the family didn't pay. On April 13 the father transferred 30,000 USDT, around 210,000 yuan or $30,000.
Then the stalling. April 16, captors said roads were closed. April 18, the pickup car was nearly at the compound when they said they had to "process her resignation," wait until the 20th. April 22, another 7 to 10 days. That evening they said she'd be released. When the father told them he was coming to pick her up the next day, they stopped replying. She's still in the compound. Family stays in contact through WeChat, sometimes her, sometimes the boss. Police opened a case April 14. The Chinese embassy in Myanmar has been notified.
A Chinese businessman said on Saturday that he had lost everything after the Thai military placed shipping containers that prevented him from accessing his business properties in Cambodiaβs Pursat province, where he operates several businesses, including a house and a hotel. He said he has suffered losses of millions of U.S. dollars, while Cambodia has lost land.
Mr. Wang has been in Cambodia for 27 years, running businesses in Phnom Penh, but has now lost everything he invested over just one year and three months in Thmor Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat province.
The Thai military placed dozens of containers beginning from around 5:00 a.m. on February 7, 2026, deep inside Cambodian territory, blocking Cambodians from traveling along their own national road from Pursat province to Koh Kong province in the northwestern part of the country, according to villagers and local authorities.
Thailand and Cambodia signed a ceasefire agreement on December 27, 2025, stipulating that no further troop deployments or movements would be allowed afterward, but the placement of containers by the Thai military on Saturday constitutes a clear violation of the agreement, Cambodia said.

@jacobincambodia If you know how most Thai product, those are not sold in supermarket, are mostly avoiding custom duty anyway. Closing the bother will drive changed. And change is good. Boycott continues.
Dear Indian friends:
Please reconsider traveling to Thailand. Hindu heritage on Cambodian land has been destroyed, while Cambodia continues to honor Hinduism through its ancient temples.
Why support a country that disrespects your faith?
As of 12:00 a.m., December 22, 2025, Thailand has conducted 23 airstrikes on Cambodia, destroying military targets and civilian infrastructure, including primary schools, pagodas, and bridges (bombings listed below).
The Thai airstrikes are unanswered. Cambodia does not have its own fighter aircraft or any surface-to-air defenses. The conflict has resulted in the displacement of 518,611 Cambodians.(1) Thailand also reports 213,072 people displaced out of precaution from Cambodian artillery fire.(2) Khmer people are suffering. The Thai provinces along the border are populated by Khmer people, such as Surin province, which is estimated to be at least 63% Khmer.(3)
Thailand agreed to an unconditional ceasefire on July 28, 2025, pressured by U.S. President Trump. President Trump oversaw the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord by Thai Prime Minister Anutin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on October 26, 2025. However, on November 10, 2025, Thai Prime Minister Anutin announced that Thailand was suspending the peace accord.(4,5)
Anutinβs public reason for cancelling the peace accord was that four Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine on a jungle path in disputed territory on November 10, 2025.(6)
However, Anutin is influenced by political calculus. Anutin, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party (βThai Pride Partyβ) became prime minister on September 5, 2025, with the help of the much larger Peopleβs Power Party which called for a referendum on the constitution to shift power from the unelected Senate. Anutin falsely agreed to support a referendum as October 1, 2025.(7)
Anutinβs November 10 cancellation of peace accord occurred only after he was aware that he would face an election. On November 5, 2025, Anutin himself stated βIf we canβt win the political game, weβll dissolve the Houseβ.(8) Early elections became even more certain for Anutin on November 9, 2025, when the Peopleβs Party demanded an extraordinary session for constitutional amendment, rejected by Anutin.(9)
Adding to Anutin's desperation, his approval rating dropped from 48% to only 23% following the slow response to floods in Southern Thailand from November 21-24.(10)
The commencement of war with Cambodia on December 7, 2025, strategically positioned Anutin for reelection ahead of the dissolution of parliament on December 12, 2025.

December 21, 2025, 1:00 p.m. Thai F-16 strike in the 5th Military Region at the area of Phkoam Commune, Svay Chek District, Banteay Meanchey province at around 1PM today.
Thailand πΉπ spent πΈ $90 million per day to invade π₯ Cambodia.
Cambodia π°π spent πΈ $3.5M per day to resist π‘οΈ the invasion.
1. πͺ Military Aspect
1h of F16 cost π° $25,000, one laser-guided GBU-12 cost π° $30,000, the ATMOS 2000 shells cost π° $5,000.
The mobilization of Operation βοΈ Sattawat, including direct πͺ military π° expenses and ground and air logistic costs, amounted to a total of π° $20 million per day.
2. π€΅π» Civil and Economic Impact
The border π₯ closures and the halt in bilateral trade are generating a net loss of π° $12-15 million per day.
3. βοΈ Humanitarian Crisis
The evacuation and care of over 150,000 to 250,000 displaced civilians are costing π° millions in medical and food logistics.
4. π§ Destruction and Insurance: Damage to civilian infrastructure and soaring insurance premiums for π transporting goods in the region bring the total to π° $90 million in daily losses.
5. π Conclusion
While Thailand πΉπ possesses raw πͺ military superiority, Cambodia π°π has a relative economic π resilience advantage. Thailand is suffering financial π losses much faster (π° $90 million vs. π° $3.5 million in direct expenditures).
π€ In the long term, Cambodia π could emerge from this conflict π victorious with a more self-reliant economy even with an economic growth slowed to 4%, while Thailand faces a major β οΈ economic and social 𧨠crisis.
Peace ποΈ is in the hands of the Thai πΉπ people!
