Imagine the chaos. It’s Sunday, you are a property manager and you get a call that the power is out on a building that has 3 restaurant tenants.
Our team didn’t panic, they locked in and solved the problem. In a short 47 hours we went from a fried breaker to power back on.
This week we doubled down on expanding drive thru coffee through the western U.S.

There are no McDonald’s in Iceland. During the Great Financial Crisis Iceland had massive financial troubles as a country. That caused their Krona Dollars to tank. The local franchisee Jon Ogmundsson was paying big $$ for corporate required menu items. For example a kilo of onions from Germany was equivalent to the cost of a good bottle of whiskey.
He closed the 3 locations as McDonald’s and re-opened them as Metro’s. Today there are 3 Metro’s operating in Iceland and are all located in Reykjavik.
The restaurants and menu have been adapted to more local ingredients and with an Iceland flare on the flavor profiles. McDonald’s has yet to return to Iceland. There are other franchised chains here such as Domino’s & KFC but those concepts source most of their ingredients locally.
