I’ve always been fascinated by Barbara Steele’s face—that haunted elegance, the air of mystery, the expressive eyes that somehow convey both menace and melancholy. I’ve written before that she seems carved from smoke and shadow, and drawing her has always felt like trying to catch moonlight with a pencil.

This piece, completed in 2023, is my personal favorite of all the portraits I’ve done of her. It’s been hanging over my drawing table ever since, quietly watching and inspiring, part muse, part mirror to the gothic themes that run through my work. But now, to help bring my new horror art book CREATURAE NOCTIS across the finish line, I’m offering it to a new home.
