With the NHC’s Tropical Cyclone Report today, Helene has been cemented as the deadliest storm to hit the contiguous U.S. since Hurricane KATRINA in 2005, claiming 248 lives and causing $78.7 BILLION in damages. 2024’s largest leviathan cyclone made landfall near Perry, Florida at 140 MPH and 939 MBAR on the night of September 26th, before triggering an inland flooding disaster of cataclysmal proportions in the mountains of Western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee the following morning. She was one of the largest Hurricanes on record to ever make landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
