So! #SWIFT ist bei weitem nicht die härteste Sanktion die zur Verfügung steht. Der Ausschluss von großen russischen Banken aus den internationalen Kapitalmärkten hat deutlich massivere Auswirkungen als der #SWIFTban auf die russische Wirtschaft. Im Notfall Secondary Sanctions.

Die EU hat leider noch nicht die VTB Bank geblockt. Nur die USA hat das gemacht. Die EU hat noch keine Großbank gelistet.

Wenn kein SWIFT, dann müssen wir dringend bei den Großbanken nachlegen.

Two key messages come from this:
1. The already imposed sanctions will have a devastating effect on the Russian economy.
2. The #SWIFTban is not as nuclear as some people make it out to be, leaving the west with plenty of room for additional measures. #Swiftbannow (7/7)

As the western world discusses, which financial sanctions, including the #SWIFTban, to impose on #Russia next, I think it might be worthwhile to explain some of the newest sanctions. Most notably the ban of correspondent banking for #Sberbank. (1/7)

If secondary sanctions would be introduced that would expel the whole Russian economy from international financial markets and trade. Compared to #SWIFTban, which would primarily increase the cost of international transfers, secondary sanctions are the "nuclear option". (6/7)
