Historically (mainly post-1988 cycles), S&P 500 returns after the first Fed hike average roughly:
1 month: -3% to -4%
3 months: about -4%
6 months: +3% to +4%
1 year: +9%
Initial weakness is common, followed by recovery in most cases. 2022 was a notable negative outlier. Averages vary by sample and exclude dividends in some studies. Past results do not predict future performance.
