@danluu some prior discussion. I came to the same conclusion you are alluding to. People at higher levels doing primarily “direct contribution” work are rare, usually deep specialists in a niche domain that is very important to a particular business

Is the ceiling for makers inevitably lower? What paths for makers are you aware of? Is there such thing as growth in tech without trading off “maker” for “multiplier” traits?
