So so happy: I successfully defended my #PhD thesis today! 🍾Thanks to my delightful viva examiners Emily @GwyerFindlay from @unisouthampton and Sarah Dennison from @UCLan. Very enjoyable to chat with both on cationic antiseptics, antimicrobial resistance, and host defence.
IBBIS launched the Global DNA Synthesis Map on Dec 9, on the sidelines of the BWC Working Group.
Huge thanks to our expert panel, partners, and to @MayraAmen for leading the project.

Check out @NickDesnoyer’s beautiful “flower programming work”, as featured by in @AsimovPress’s latest article (https://t.co/oWMOwAWBZp). It’s incredible! His website is https://t.co/mmD0WCVCjj and he’s giving away free T-shirts featuring photos of his flowers 👀
As I told the @theipaper: “Down the drain, into the sewer, all of those #biocides [in consumer products] are joining the morning rush of water that will end up in our rivers & seas."

I published a cool paper! If you care about #scipol, influencing policy as a scientist, and translating scientific expertise into #policy, this is for you!
Thanks to @gilbertjacka for the encouragement to write this piece 😊

Antimicrobial resistance. The civil service. Is there any link between them? YES.!The current organisation of the civil service undermines our biosecurity and AMR response. Read more above 👀
A brilliant speech by my @TheGreenParty colleague @natalieben to outline her Private Member's Bill on #Biocides which exist unnecessarily and dangerously in some everyday products.
Our human microbiome and our biosphere can be adversely affected by too much bug killing!!
Can we curb #AMR using walnut shells? Yes! My first first-author paper is now published: https://t.co/V1qqRIHhpv
This paper represents a tonne of effort from an excellent multidisciplinary team tackling #antimicrobialresistance from orthogonal directions. Check it out!
I write @FadyPEC & Dr Katy Stokes for @ResponsibleSci about failures to integrate modern science into policy & law.
Govt "overwhelmed by amount & complexity of information & are rarely qualified to analyse it rigorously"

The number of published scientific research papers has grown exponentially since the second world war 📈
Can we really expect our imperial-era civil service and political system to keep up? 🤔

@natalieben Slightly longer post taken from LinkedIn, giving credit where credit is due. In particular, to all the amazing academics, third sector orgs, and Parliamentarians (including one Minister!) who fed into this process. Huge thanks to @BSACandJAC for funding Katy's work on this.
Baroness @natalieben, Katy Stokes, and I released a policy briefing entitled Guarding Against Antimicrobial Resistance: Towards Responsible Biocide Use in Consumer Goods

Supports the Consumer Products (Control of Biocides) Bill [HL]. Check it out! #scipol
@trikomes Hi Nick, can’t seem to find a live link to your “why are we getting fatter” article series. Did you take them down? If so, any way to still access them?
Really delighted to join @natalieben and brilliant speakers from @CitytoSea_ and @PAN_UK at @TheGreenParty conference (#GPC24) to talk about the environmental damage caused by novel entities—particularly antimicrobial biocides! Watch this space for more soon…
Just 3.5 hours left for UK #PhD students to apply to this #science#policy (#scipol) internship with @natalieben funded by @BSACandJAC.
