The delay in ECP announcing the election result has had a devastating effect on the voters’ perception of the electoral process.

Clear examples of the overturning of the will of the people in key seats in Lahore, Multan, Peshawar and throughout Karachi—possibly also Islamabad.

A great February 8 election day has been reversed by 48 hours of stupidity and dishonesty.

How to fix this?

1. PTI needs to be allowed to mobilise as a party in parliament—whatever name it adopts or whichever existing party it joins. This will ensure that reserved seats will not be denied to PTI.

2. PPP needs to realise its centrality to a solution for Pakistan—and to use it wisely. Do not respond to provocations and do not take the bait on a minus PTI solution.

3. PML-N needs to consolidate and reflect on how a good leader ends up adopting Aun Chaundhry and how a deeply embedded party loses Sialkot, Faisalabad and Gujranwala. If Maryam has any future, it needs to be built in the opposition.

4. The Army Chief needs to ensure that his decisions are informed by a wider and more representative range than whatever he currently has.

In the midst of polycrisis, election day showed how glorious the country can be when systems are allowed to work as they are supposed to.

Pakistan can no more afford the ugliness that emerges when systems are not allowed to work—as has been the case since voting ended February 8.

The single largest party in this election is the PTI.

It is largest by a significant margin.

And this is not even accounting for wild anomalies in places like Multan, Lahore and Karachi where extraordinary results seem to have been fabricated.

PTI must be allowed to try to form government.

Nawaz Sharif has the capacity for great wisdom. His speech reflects his conciliatory approach.

He needs to follow his own example during the charter of democracy and during the 7th NFC award in 2010. He must shun the allure of forming an unpopular government.

Remember: any government that does not include PTI MNAs will be unpopular.

کون کہتا ہے کہ پارٹی سے انتخابی نشان چھینے جانے سے عوام ووٹ کے آئینی حق سے محروم ہو جاتی ہے۔ الیکشن کمیشن اور سپریم کورٹ کا فیصلہ بادی النظر میں درست تھا۔

سوال: اگر کسی پارٹی کو انتخابی نشان سے محروم کرنے سے بھی کوئی فرق نہیں پڑتا تو پھر ایسی سزا کا فائدہ؟

اِسکی جگہ پارٹی پر پابندی اور اِسکی حمایت کے دعویدار تمام امیدواروں کے لئیے جیل کی سزا مقرر ہونی چاہئیے تاکہ یہ الیکشن ہی نہ لڑ سکیں۔ بلکہ آزاد امیدواروں پر بھی الیکشن لڑنے پر پابندی لگا دینی چاہئیے۔

لگتا ہے آئیندہ الیکشن میں بڑی جماعتوں کے امیدوار بھی آزاد الیکشن لڑنے کو ترجیح دینگے۔ سیاسی جماعتوں اور انکے انتخابی نشانات کا اللہ ہی حافظ

کبھی کبھی جہیز کا سامان بھی کام آ جاتا ہے
