I talked about this sort of thing in my review of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Not specifically having food delivered, but this idea that convenience is the ultimate ideal being a fallacy.

You know why people still go to theaters instead of just watching Netflix? Or why people buy records instead of using Spotify? It's because you lose something when all you have to do is press a button. Even though what you get in the end is the same, it's not the same experience.

When you can just press a button and start a movie, you go from, "I'm gonna plan my day around seeing this movie and it's gonna be an event" to "let's just put something on to kill a couple hours".

When you can just press a button to start a song, you go from, "I'm gonna pick out a record from my shelf, carefully place it on the turntable and listen to some music" to "let's just put on anything for background noise".

The less effort it takes to do something, the less you appreciate it, the less you internalize the experience, and the less you remember it.

Now when it comes to having food delivered, you can just scroll through an app on your phone and have someone bring it to you while you live from chair to chair, or you can leave the house and feel like you did something that day other than go to work and come back home like you do every single day.

There are six grocery stores within a fifteen minute drive of my house. I actually alternate between them when I go out for groceries just so I don't feel like I'm doing the same thing every day. Sometimes, I see new things or find new products to try that I wouldn't have if I just used an app at home. It's not an exciting adventure, but it's far less monotonous than just sitting on my ass at home where I would probably just end up screwing around on my computer if I didn't go anywhere. It gives me at least some sense of novelty.

I haven't seen the movie yet but this is at the start of Poor Things (at least on Amazon). Isn't this an R-rated movie for grown-ups that's full of fucking? Does the audience for this really need a trigger warning that somebody smokes a cigarette? Poor Yorgos.

I've never heard of South Park or Family Guy fans doing this sort of thing. My theory is that "wholesome" shows like Steven Universe and faux-edgy shows like Hazbin Hotel attract people who can't stand being challenged, and they turn into monsters when faced with disagreement.

I never liked the concept of midi-chlorians. When the original trilogy was all that existed, the Force was portrayed as purely spiritual. You got the sense that anyone could learn to use the force if they were dedicated enough, like a monk finding enlightenment, but the secrets to achieving that enlightenment died out with the Jedi.

Then the Prequels happened and suddenly the Force was something you were just born with and some people were just genetically better than others, regardless of their effort. That trivialized the spiritualism. It became just a matter of honing your X-Men powers.

What they did to Yoda perfectly encapsulates this. Yoda was originally a small and unassuming creature who no one would expect was a great warrior because what made him a great warrior was not strength or combat skill, but his spirituality. It illustrated the point that the Force was not just something that gave a Jedi superpowers, but that it was something that transcended the physical.

Then they had him pull out a lightsaber in the prequels. The Force was reduced to something that enabled him to jump really high and do flips while fighting people three times his height— which completely went against the entire point of his character in the original trilogy— and he could do this because he was born with more midi-chlorians than most.
