Fail Fact: "Ponzi scheme" refers to Charles Ponzi, a 1920's con man.
Ponzi took money from new investors to pay off earlier investors, while he pocketed the rest. His company did no actual work.
He cost investors ~$196 M in modern money, preceding the likes of Bernie Madoff.
