Decentralisation is about empowering the people, not taking power away from them.

Local councils must have the authority, resources, and independence they need to serve their communities effectively.

Dr. Muizzu’s administration has taken away vital resources, including land and budget grants, that councils need to fulfil their constitutional responsibilities. These actions raise serious concerns about the future of decentralisation in the Maldives.

When MDP returns to power, we will restore the rights and resources taken away from local councils and go further by granting them greater powers, responsibilities, and independence.

Strong councils mean empowered communities, stronger local democracy, and a stronger Maldives. 🇲🇻
