There are reports that #Pakistan has attacked Kunar University in #Afghanistan, killing 4 and injuring 70. Pakistan has denied the reports. Unfortunately, Pakistan's denials have repeatedly proven to not be credible. Just a few weeksI ago, it attacked a hospital, killing around 400 civilians. Islamabad denied the attack. However, their responsibility was later confirmed by credible international observers. The same may prove true in this case. If the reports are correct, this barbaric attack deserves to be condemned in the strongest terms. Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif’s verbal diatribe against Israel is a calculated and strategic measure to signal Pakistan’s opposition to Israel and U.S. and attract criticism from Tel Aviv and Washington.

It provides Pakistan domestic support for their duplicitous policies. On the one hand, they’re deep in the pockets of Trump and Netanyahu. On the other hand, they facilitate talks with Iran and condemn Israeli attacks on Iran.

If the talks fail and war resumes, they can safely say to their masters in Washington and Tel Aviv that they did everything they can to help. They can also tell their own domestic audience that they have always been firmly against the U.S. and Israel.

The conniving ways of Pakistani military establishment are all deeply rooted in the British tradition of duplicity and deception.
