“While other journalists have approached the Christian sports movement as outsiders or observers, Eubanks writes as a cobelligerent, seeing Christian athletes as part of his battle against the overreach of secular cultural forces.”

It's finally time for the (ridiculously long) World Cup 2026 to begin!
I had some thoughts for @TGC on what healthy fandom looks like this summer:
We enjoy sports gratefully 🙌
We enjoy sports in proportion 😍
We speak differently 👄
Every four years, billions of people invest their emotions in the World Cup.
So how can we enjoy this sporting spectacle without being negatively shaped by it more than we realize?

I wrote about basketball, Christianity, and the New York Knicks.
Featuring the Black Episcopalians who built NYC’s hoops scene, the ex-evangelicals who helped the Knicks win two championships, the hype priests, the “God squad,” and much more.
Organized by our spiritual formation team and the @FaithSportsInst a few weeks ago, the annual Champions (Re)Defined Retreat began by bringing together 38 student-athletes from Baylor, Biola and George Fox on day 1️⃣ to explore what it means to be a magnanimous person - a person of great and virtuous soul 🙏
The foundation for the week was set as athletes were challenged to pursue excellence through faith, character and purpose, both in sport and in life.
Day 2️⃣ challenged student-athletes to put faith and love into action. After learning about these virtues and their role in competition, student-athletes had the opportunity to serve at Creekside Community Village, demonstrating Christ's love through meaningful service and connection with others.
