The Goldilocks Rule states that humans experience peak motivation when working on tasks that are right on the edge of their current abilities. Not too hard. Not too easy. Just right.
When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure. Measurement is only useful when it guides you and adds context to a larger picture, not where it consumes you. Each number is simply one piece of feedback in the overall system.
The first mistake is never the one that ruins you. It is the spiral of repeated mistakes that follows. Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit.
BEYOND YOUR IMMIGRATION CHALLENGES.
This is a very difficult time for many immigrants, and I am representing some of them as they seek solutions.
But from my personal experience, it may be part of God’s way of training some of you reading this in endurance, patience, resilience, faith, creativity, and being adventurous.
I battled the immigration authorities of the UK for 10 solid years despite being married to a British citizen and having 3 children who are also British Citizens. I was an overstayer by a few days.
I reported to the police station three times a week for 8 years. I reported at London Bridge, Hornsey Lane, Edmonton, St. Ann's Road, and Wood Green police stations. Every time I changed accommodation, they moved the police station. It was a nightmare.
After reporting for 7 years, they finally decided to deport me. They locked me up, took me to Gatwick Airport to deport me, we got an injunction, and they could not take me. They then locked me up at a detention center for close to five weeks.
I did not lie down in detention. I was always leading people to pray and fast. I taught them that God is able. I did not cry or faint. Every time my wife called, they told her I was praying. She had to remind me that “Mr. Man, I and our children are crying daily”. Eventually, they released me. I used 7 different law firms and went to court several times.
I did not spend those days moaning. I planned my future. I studied law and went through law school in great pain and self-sponsored my education. Today, I am a beneficiary of my resilience and run a thriving legal practice and ministry. If you give up, you won’t go up. Psalm 27:13-14 will help you.
My question is, what are you doing whilst waiting? Tears cannot help you. Being creative will, and some of you have the social media to make some money. If you are inventive, you will not be hungry.
Finally, having an immigration status will not solve all your problems. Many people with British passports and leave to remain are still hungry. It is not what you have, but what you do with it that matters. What are you going to do when you get the right to live in the UK? Many people have no clue.
By the time I got my right to remain in the UK, I was ready to make a generational impact without living on benefits. Be the same, and God bless you.

WEAK PEOPLE ARE RULED BY EMOTIONS!
I started studying law in my 30s after having two young children. By the time I left the law school, they had become three.
The people around me at the time gave me a thousand reasons why it was the wrong move due to my age, my family, my young children, my lack of immigration status, the number of years it would take me to complete the whole process, and the fact that I would have to pay for it privately.
Rather than being discouraged, their negative reasons motivated me, and I saw the future benefits rather than the pain I would go through. It took me 7 years of pain, but I have had 26 years of living my dreams and counting. The family they wanted to use to discourage me is now one of the beneficiaries of my selflessness.
Listen closely, if you don’t pay the price now, you will chase the prize for the rest of your life.
I remember starting with several people, but most dropped out. One of them said the law books were too heavy. One said there was too much to read. Another said all his friends who read law could not get a job, but I told them I was not looking for a job but to create jobs, and it came to pass.
Don’t let your emotions rule your life. How many people have you unfollowed on social media this year? They don’t even know you unfollowed them. Why are you punishing yourself?
Emotion is what makes many people break up good relationships. It is emotion that makes people write or say things they will regret for the rest of their lives. It is emotion that makes people abandon their goals and projects. It is emotion that will make someone go under another person’s post and abuse them. It is emotion that makes people attack people physically or verbally, either digitally or in person. It is emotion that makes people post their frustrations online. We all have issues.
Weak people are controlled by their emotions, which makes them fail, but strong people are in control of their emotions, and it takes them to higher heights in life.
If you control your emotions, you will conquer the world. You will make friends rather than lose friends. You will build institutions rather than become a corner shop. If you don’t understand this message, it is very simple: Grow up and stop being childish.

IF YOU ARE FROM A POOR BACKGROUND, READ THIS!
I grew up in poverty, but knowing how to cultivate a relationship changed my life. One of the major problems of poor people is their inability to build relationships that will transform their lives.
I was raised in Ondo City in Ondo State, Nigeria. I related to the children of the rich on our street and in the schools I attended. In school, I related to my seniors, washed their dresses, cleaned their shoes, and made their beds. Even though I was not in the boarding school, I lived and ate like a boarder. How? You can’t touch me because almost all the prefects were either my ‘friends’ or friends of my mentors. Why are you always moving with people who can’t improve you?
It was through my relationships that I started getting advanced information about life, money, career, how to talk to girls😂, and how to use vocabulary. I learned how to apply for visas, and when the time came, I applied for my UK visa myself. Information is power.
Let me digress, people who don’t know how to build friendships usually marry the first person to say yes to their proposal. 😊
In my career in law and the ministry, I work with people who have cutting-edge knowledge in their fields, and this has affected my life. Friendship can transform your destiny.
Dear fellow ‘poor’ people, if you want to rise, change your circle of friends. They only gossip, complain, and condemn the rich and the successful. It is like social media: some people are making money and building friendships, while others are busy arguing with digital enemies. What you detest, you cannot attract.
If my parents rise from the grave today, they will wonder who helped me to rise. I will say firstly, the grace of God and my ability to build friendships in many nations and maintain them.
The devil or your enemies may not be the ones to blame for where you are, but your inability to make valuable friends may have limited you. My wife just called me. I am coming.

PLEASE READ — THIS IS A WARNING TO SKILLED WORKERS EARNING ON SOCIAL MEDIA
I came to the UK in January 2021 on a Skilled Worker visa.
Like many people, I worked hard, followed the rules, paid my taxes, and tried to build a better life for my family.
I started creating content on TikTok too, eventually got monetised and began earning some extra income. I received letters from HMRC regarding tax sometime which I complied with fully.
Fast forward to my ILR application. My application has just been refused.
I was told that earning money from social media counts as additional employment, and that it is Not the same profession as my sponsored job, Not on the Skilled Worker eligible occupation list and Considered working beyond the allowed rules of my visa.
Now my life feels shattered. My wife and children are dependants on my visa, and their visas are due to expire in two months. They were supposed to apply for ILR shortly after me.
Now everything is uncertain, I don’t know what to do but I felt it was important to share this publicly because I know many skilled workers are doing the same thing; earning from TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, brand deals, or digital platforms.
If you are on a Skilled Worker visa and earning on social media, please pause and seek proper legal advice, especially if ILR is anywhere in your future.
I’m sharing this because I don’t want anyone else to learn the hard way like I just did.
If you have advice, experience, or guidance, please comment or reach out, I am not ok.

THE BIGGEST TRAGEDY FOR MANY IMMIGRANTS
I have lived most of my life in the UK in the immigration ‘arena,’ and this is my 26th year as an immigration practitioner. This is also my 24th year as a pastor, so I have dealt with many immigrants, with or without status, throughout.
I have observed over the years that many lives are wasted when people do everything to achieve status, but there is no purpose to it.
Many people become settled or become British citizens, then become stranded. Let me remind those who have it and those who are looking forward to it that it is not what you have that matters, but what you do with it.
I have found that, several times, even many of those with no status in the country are doing better than those who have. It is ironic.
Having immigration status is not just about traveling or getting benefits, but it is about putting yourself and your family in a position where nothing can make you afraid. You have status, but you constantly borrow, sometimes shamelessly, from those without it. It does not make sense.
Retrace your steps. Go back to the drawing board. What are you doing with the status you have? Are you on benefits, or are you giving benefits?
What will you do when you get your immigration status? Determine that now, so you don’t become a wandering star.
I was very sure about what I wanted to do with my immigration status. I decided that I will make an impact and, by the grace of God, leave a good legacy.
I wrote this to wake you up. Come up higher. You can do it.

I have seen several messy situations where some people died without making a will, and others took over their properties. Some women and children were deprived of the man’s property, and the children suffered as a result. It does not mean that you will die now. Stop being superstitious and protect your family. Men and women should do it. All the best.

LET ME GIVE YOU HOPE!
If you are reading this, do not give up, no matter how bad your situation is. Your sadness, disappointment, or failure today will turn to joy if you don’t give up.
Yesterday was the happiest day of my life as my youngest child and daughter graduated with an LLM Degree in Legal Practice. She joined her two brothers by having a Master’s Degree in Law. Let’s see who will bag the doctorate first😜
I came from a poor background, and sponsoring my education was a big challenge. Between starting primary school and getting a degree, I wasted fifteen years due to lack of money. I had to work hard to sponsor my education.
After my first degree, I tried getting a Master’s from Middlesex University in London. That was twenty-three years ago. I enrolled in a two-year part-time course. I would finish work at the law firm where I was working and travel to the university to study. I used to get home at 10 p.m. Hey!
I completed the first year successfully and started the second year. In the last semester of the second year, I was deregistered for not being able to pay the balance of my school fees, which was just £750. It was little, but I didn’t have it. I left in tears, but I made up my mind that I would be back.
Life was hard studying with three young children and a wife who was trying her best to support us.
My revenge was to put my three children through private schools and sponsor them through the university and the law schools with a little help. Today, the three of them have a Master’s Degree in Law and are in active legal practice. I could not do it, but they did it.
Listen, folks, you will go up if you don’t give up. Joy is coming. End!
