Your entire argument collapses from the very first sentence because you fundamentally misunderstand what shirk actually means. You are confusing acknowledging a messenger with worshipping a deity.

Shirk is to assign divine attributes to someone besides the Creator, or to direct acts of worship to other than Allah. The Shahada does the exact opposite. It says: Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah — peace and blessings be upon him. It does not say he is God, part of God, equal to God, or worthy of worship. It explicitly identifies him as a messenger, meaning a human servant chosen by Allah to convey His revelation.

So the Shahada does not elevate Prophet Muhammad — peace and blessings be upon him — to divinity. Rather, it clearly separates between Allah, the One who is worshipped, and Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, the servant and messenger who conveyed the message. That is not shirk. That is pure monotheism.

As for Adam, yes, the core religion of submission to the One God has existed from the beginning. But the messenger appointed to deliver Allah’s command differed from one era to another. In the time of Moses, peace be upon him, a true believer could not say: “I believe in God, but I reject Moses.” That would not be monotheism; it would be rebellion against the very God who sent Moses.

The same applies to Jesus, peace be upon him. A person in his time could not truthfully claim submission to God while rejecting the prophet whom God had sent. Belief in the messenger is not worship of the messenger. It is obedience to the Sender.

You cannot claim to submit to the King while rejecting the ambassador whom the King Himself appointed.

Today, the Shahada includes Prophet Muhammad — peace and blessings be upon him — because he is the final messenger sent to mankind. Acknowledging him is not an act of worshipping him; it is an act of obeying Allah who sent him. Muslims do not pray to Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. They do not believe he created the universe, controls destiny, forgives sins independently, or possesses divinity. They believe he is the noble servant and final Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.

So your objection only works if you erase the basic distinction between worship and testimony. If acknowledging a prophet sent by God is shirk, then belief in Moses, Jesus, Abraham, Noah, or any prophet would also be shirk — which is absurd.

The Shahada is not polytheism. It is the clearest declaration of monotheism: there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger — peace and blessings be upon him.
