@DollyZoom Man, dog genetics really was a pretty ideal system. I really should have learned a lot more from them.

@DollyZoom Newfies themselves have a history that probably involves some of those big dogs (Great Pyrenees and maybe some older dogs that were “indigenous” to the area, maybe from the vikings!), but they were an important core stock to most of our beloved retriever breeds today.

@DollyZoom Maybe not a classic phylogenetic tree, but check out this cladogram from 161 breeds in 2017 (https://t.co/4KQoLx4ubA) or this from 300+ breeds in 2023 (https://t.co/NObRgHvryD). Our guy, Jeff Kidd, helped with that one! He's the dog genetics captain now.
