自分がこれまで生きてきた30年分のすべてを注ぎ込んだ結果、自傷・薬物・宗教・セックス、あらゆる要素が考査に引っかかりました。そのたび、アニメスタッフたちが全力で「規制を恐れて作品の魅力を損なうことは絶対に避けたい」と粘っていただき、NEEDYアニメは極めて原液の状態で完成していきました。NEEDY GIRLという概念が世に存在する意味を、「この作品でしか描くことのできない表現がある」と強く信じてくれたスタッフの熱意と理解度を鑑みて、僕は今作の存在価値を確信しております。
自分が赤裸々に書き綴ってきた脚本を演じる際、時に感情移入した声優さんが泣き出すこともありました。瞬間、つまるところ今作で描いたこととは「人間」なんだなと直感します。
多くの方がNEEDYに対して「インターネット」を中心に議論してきました。
僕自身、子供のころから今まで見てきたインターネットの酸いも甘いも、そのまま原作ゲームにて書ききったと自負しております。そんな作品のアニメですから、当然「インターネットとはなんだったのだろう」と考えなければなりません。今回も友達と作った新曲のタイトルも『INTERNET ANGEL』ですし。
ゲームをリリース後、その大きな反響にて僕もまた世界中の不特定多数と接続されていき、時に罵られ、時に憧憬をぶつけられ、時に愛され、時に攻撃されました。いったい、顔の見えないこの人たちとはなんなのだろう。流行、推し、信仰、冷笑、炎上、消費、アルゴリズム、SNS、愛憎、インフルエンサー、ポップ、カルチャー、批判、サブカル、メイン、イラストレーション、アニメーション。
僕の結論は、「人間」でした。
インターネットの正体は、なんてことはない、「人間の集まり」なのです。匿名でもAIでもありません。そこにいるすべては個人の集合体であり、まず人間があって、インターネットがあります。
長い歴史の果て、ついに人類は小さな長方形を手に、光速で世界中の人々と繋がりました。人類史初の大改革に、多くの人々はその功罪に悩まされます。今では、過ぎた力を恐れ世界ではスマートフォンやSNSが規制されていくほどに。
その強大な磁場も、「人間」です。
単語一つの揚げ足をとって著名人を十字架に掛けて燃やすのも、名もなき少女が二次元を纏って想いを発信する様を偶像と崇め奉るのも、すべて一人一人の人間が行なっていることなのです。
インターネットの正体とは人間でした。
だから、僕は己が半生の一区切りに、13話分のこれまで体感した「人間の持つ真善美」を描ききることで、不特定多数の世界中と共に過ごした奇妙な青春をアニメーションなる総合芸術へと昇華せねばならなかったのです。
それには大きな痛みが伴い、過激であったり露骨な表現も含まざるを得ず、きっとたくさんの意見が飛び交っていくことでしょう。それは皆さんが人間たる証拠に思います。タローマンの映画が、「岡本太郎 人間」のテロップで締めた際、まさしくこれだと感極まりました。
僕も、あなたも、匿名でも、アニメアイコンでも、クリエイターでも、ROM専でも、配信者でも、転売屋でも、ファンでも、アンチでも、としあきでも、名無しさんでもない。
僕たちは痛みを感じる人間です。
