As a member of Fall River Electric Cooperative, you understand it is owned by the people it serves...you. Our responsibility is simple but essential: to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to the homes, farms, schools, and businesses within our service area.
Electricity is not a luxury- it is a critical service. During sub-zero winter weather, it powers heating systems that keep families safe. It supports medical facilities, keeps water and wastewater systems operating, and allows our local economy to function. When the temperature drops, reliable electricity becomes a matter of safety. Today, our system in Teton Valley is under increasing strain. To address this need, Fall River Electric is proposing the construction of the Midway Residential Substation between Driggs and Victor.
This is not a project of convenience-it is essential infrastructure, no different than roads, water systems, or wastewater facilities. Reliable electricity is foundational to a safe and functioning valley. Simply put, without action, we may not have enough electricity during the coldest days of the year to avoid a significant power outage.
We respectfully ask you to take a moment to contact Teton County Idaho officials and share your support for the Midway Residential Substation project. Hearing directly from cooperative members helps ensure decision-makers understand how critical reliable electricity is to you and the rest of the valley.
Please send your message BEFORE May 10th. It will only take a minute of your time! Email directly to [email protected] but hurry Teton County officials need to hear from you BEFORE May 10th. Be sure to add your name and where you live.
Thank you for your continued trust in your Cooperative and we appreciate your support and help at this critical time.

Oregon federal court has ordered additional water spill over the lower Snake River dams to aid salmon.
In late February, U. S. District Judge Michael Simon, a federal judge in Oregon issued a preliminary injunction ordering additional water to be spilled over the dams on the Snake and Columbia rivers for longer periods of time to potentially aid salmon migrations in the spring, summer, and fall. The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), which markets power generated by these dams to northwest utilities including Fall River Electric estimate that this ruling will result in a 17% increase in wholesale power costs due to a reduction in hydropower generation as more water will go over the dams rather than through the turbines to produce electricity.
Northwest RiverPartners said the court order will drive up electricity costs, increase the risk of power blackouts during extremely hot and cold weather, and make the river transportation system less safe and reliable. The Montana electric co-ops association stated that BPA will have to rely more heavily on higher-cost market power purchases to supplement the loss of hydro-generated power, costs which will have to be passed along to customers not only in Montana but also Idaho and the other northwest states. Fall River Electric purchases the vast majority of its power from the Bonneville Power Administration.
Federal defendants & the Inland Ports & Navigation Group have both filed appeals on March 30th to the Ninth Circuit.

See the only total lunar eclipse of 2026 tomorrow morning March 3rd!
The first major astronomical event visible in 2026 is a total lunar eclipse, or “blood moon.” This phenomenon is highly prized by stargazers because the entire lunar disk takes on a reddish color for a few moments.
Although the eclipse will begin in the early morning, totality will occur almost at dawn on March 3. A few hours before sunrise, the full moon will take on its characteristic reddish color for just 12 minutes.
See it locally at 4:04am. It's safe to view a total lunar eclipse, unlike a solar eclipse. You don't need any special equipment; just go to a high vantage point and dress warmly. Keep in mind that at the time of totality, the moon will be almost touching the horizon, about to disappear.
