Although I do agree with your sentiments about bag chasing in coaching being a concern…I think coaches should absolutely be held to a similar standard as players.
But…the exponential growth between coaches pay and what we’re paying these players isn’t even close.
Growth patterns for paying players are probably 3x higher than paying coaches when controlled for.
I’m going to tell a story - hopefully you’ll get the entire point.
I don’t know if Alabama paid players back in the Saban days. Honestly - it wouldn’t surprise me if they did and it wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t.
What I do know is this - while I was finishing my Master’s degree at Alabama, I worked for the Athletic Department. Upon hiring, because I’d be working closely with athletes, I had to attend a training that covered NCAA rules. In other words…the dos and don’ts.
I also worked closely with former Alabama player Jalston Fowler on a research project during my undergraduate degree.
One day, I was driving down university and it was pouring rain. I saw Jalston on the side of the road and asked if he needed a ride. He said he could not because of NCAA rules. Sucked but I had to respect it and drive on.
The point is that I do know that some athletes took the regulations, policies, and rules very seriously at Alabama. I can’t speak for them all, but I can speak for Fowler on this one. He refused a simple drive out of the rain because it could be viewed negatively by the NCAA, an improper benefit of him playing football at Alabama.
There no way around it - the news of missing out on a visit from KJ Green sucks, no matter how you slice it. Seeing a lot of folks talking about this online.
But - the feeling (imo) has been that Alabama will likely be a bit more aggressive in the transfer portal than we’ve seen in a while - hence the smaller class. I’d also imagine that EDGE will be a position that gets looked at heavily.
Doesn’t fix the immediate sting of this potential news, but there’s certainly a contingency plan - or will be/ has to be.
It’s also June - we’ve got a LOOOONG WAAAAY to go.
The comments from Nick Saban and this NIL debate has got some people showing their true colors.
I’m shocked that in 2026 people are still saying stupid shit like this. Excuse the language but this really upsets me.
Hard to believe that if the majority of college football players weren’t African American, you wouldn’t be making this comparison.
This is actually a really disturbing comment shrouded as provocative tongue in cheek.
Ladies and gentlemen don’t forget!
We’ve got a treat tonight for you at 8 PM CST.
Nigel Newkirk and his fam will be joining us us live to talk his recent commitment to Alabama Football!
We’ll dive into what he brings to the table, his journey to Tuscaloosa, the Gainesville connection, and much more.
See ya there on YouTube or right here on X.
I’d venture to say there will be zero “jogging issues” out of Bray Hubbard in 2026.
Will be interesting as well to see what this season does for his draft stock.
