Happy birthday to my wife, Vivian.

For 25 years, we have walked through life together.

We raised nine children. Now we have eight grandchildren watching the story continue.

She stood beside me through 17 years of ministry, through the Blizzard of 2022, the October Surprise, the November Storm, family crises, victories, rebuilding, and more chapters than most people will ever know.

And somehow she also survived being married to a man with what people call ADHD, but what I have always called energy-itis.

In my life, it has never felt like a curse. It has been propulsion.

I move fast. I think fast. I build fast. I dream too big. I can see ten moves ahead while everyone else is still deciding whether we should move at all.

Vivian has been the ballast.

The deeper truth is this:

I have always felt like a transplant into a world she understands instinctively.

She understands people.

She understands family.

She understands the nuances I sometimes walk straight past at full speed.

For 25 years, she has taken my hand and walked me through a world she knew how to navigate far better than I did.

She taught me things no book ever could.

She gave structure to my velocity.

She made room for my calling while carrying one of her own.

She raised our children beside me, loved our grandchildren, stood beside a pastor, endured the emergencies that came with ministry, and somehow remained the woman I still want beside me when everything gets quiet.

And now something is changing.

For 25 years, she has walked me through her world.

Now I get to take her into mine.

Into the woods. Into the land. Into building something from the ground up. Into a quieter rhythm where creation itself speaks and where, after spending so many years pouring ourselves into everybody else, we get to discover what God has prepared for the next chapter of our lives.

Vivian, you have spent 25 years standing beside me.

I want to spend the years ahead standing beside you.

I love you more profoundly now than I even understood how to love when this journey began.

And above all, I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who brought us together in the first place. Every chapter, every trial, every blessing, every strange and beautiful turn in this life traces back to His providence.

Happy birthday to my wife, my partner, the mother of our children, grandmother to our grandchildren, and the woman who has walked beside me through a quarter century of life.

The Almighty knew exactly what He was doing when He gave me you.
