Happy Anniversary, Abner… A year ago when you made your way to safety through our gates — identified initially as a mare but actually a gelding — I had no idea how much you’d change my life. I had no idea how much I’d love you… God, you were in terrible shape. Skin and bones, fungus, rain rot, bald almost everywhere.
And that foot, that 28 1/2 degree rotation on that foot (coupled with screws in both ankles) was so scary. More than one person thought the kind thing to do would be to let you go… but I couldn’t do it, I loved you too much and I knew you deserved a chance at life, in my soul I knew you’d fight for your life.
And with absolutely no reason, you threw your love and trust into my hands (and heart)…
Over the course of the last year, thanks to the help of some wonderful people, you healed. You gained weight, your skin healed and you grew a beautiful coat. You suffered through some very painful farrier visits, but maintained your kindness and dignity through it all. Today you’re sound thanks to him and your foot is in pretty good shape.
And you made friends with everyone. Chad, Grady, Gideon, Gracie and especially baby Connie. You showed her so much, especially kindness and patience as she leaned how to be a big horse. But mostly you loved. When you love someone, we know it. I’ve never been around a horse like you in that regard. You won’t let a day go by without telling me, making sure I find the time for a little huggy kissy as I bustle about maintaining this rescue.
But mostly you’ve been so much fun. Your big, bold personality and quirkiness is a gift to all of us. Having you here has been a blessing and I thank God every day for you.
Abner, thank you for making every day for me at least a little bit better.
I am so lucky to love and be loved by you…

The law enforcement family showed up in force.
A Miami officer lost his life in the line of duty this past year, and on his son’s 2nd birthday, fellow officers and firefighters flooded the street to remind the family they are not alone.
To the Cajuso family, and every family who has lost a loved one in the line of duty: the FOP stands with you. We see you. We honor you. We will never forget.

In 2025, CODY ROBERTS from Wyoming, horrifically abused and killed a young female Wolf. He chased and ran her down with a snowmobile, an act that sparked national outrage and underscored the urgent need for stronger protections for Wolves and all wild animals.
A grand jury has indicted Roberts on felony animal cruelty charges who faces up to two years in prison and fines of up to $5,000.
Roberts appeared in court where he pleaded not guilty. The trial is set for March 9, 2026, in Sublette County District Court in Pinedale.
Let’s hope he gets a long time in prison 😡😡!
Do You Know Me?
On April 8, 1996, I was found deceased in the Harlem River in New York City. My body was discovered beneath the Broadway Bridge near West 225th Street in the Bronx. Investigators believe I had been deceased for less than a week.
At the time of my death, I was between 14 and 20 years old, approximately 5’3” tall, and weighed around 142 pounds. I had a nose piercing and multiple piercings in both ears.
If anything about my description feels familiar, even the smallest detail could help bring answers.
Please share my story. Help give me back my name. If you have any information that could help identify me, call NCMEC at 1-800-THE-LOST.

Matthew "Axe" Axelson was part of Operation Red Wings, a mission that unraveled into chaos in the Afghan mountains. The team was compromised, the terrain offered no cover. Enemy fighters closed in from above and below. Axelson was wounded and separated. Communications were gone, support was impossible. Survival now depended on minutes and muscle memory.
He kept moving despite his injuries, Axelson continued to engage the enemy alone.
He maneuvered through steep terrain, changed positions, returned fire, and refused to surrender ground. There was no team to regroup with. No extraction coming.
When his body was later recovered, investigators found spent magazines around him. Evidence that he stayed in the fight long after separation. Evidence that he did not go quietly. Axelson was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism. The citation spoke of sustained resistance under fire while wounded and isolated.
Please join us in praying for Senior Officer Alexandria Cano Castro, critically wounded in the line of duty. She’s a brave warrior fighting for her life.
Two other officers were injured but are now home. The suspect is in custody.
Let’s stand strong and send all our prayers and support to Alexandria, her family, and the Corpus Christi Police Department.
