Riftbound RC Stuttgart is happening in just three weeks, and my flight leaves in two and a half weeks. Yet I still haven't received the link to purchase my competitor badge.
Why does everything have to be so last-minute? I just want to plan my trip and schedule around confirmed information, rather than receiving an email saying, "Congratulations, you’ve qualified for the Riftbound Regional Championship: Europe!" and then hearing absolutely nothing afterward.
I'm genuinely confused about what's going on. Considering the number of RQs that have already taken place and the players who earned their invites through Top 64 finishes, I wouldn't expect the number of qualified players to be that difficult to manage. Yet somehow, it's taking even longer just to send out a purchase link.
I understand there's a lot going on, especially with the recent prize structure changes, but shouldn't they be prioritizing competitor registration? Having actual registration numbers would allow them to plan the tournament structure and Swiss rounds more accurately, instead of simply announcing six rounds on Friday and another six on Saturday without providing much context.
And what happens if the turnout is lower than expected? Are we really going to play 12 rounds of Swiss regardless of attendance? What happens if we reach Round 9 or 10 and players keep getting down-paired because there aren't enough competitors at similar records?
I'm not asking for everything to be perfect. I just want clear communication, a reliable timeline, and enough confirmed information to plan an international trip without having to guess what's going on.
We're only three weeks away from the event. At this point, I really don't think that's too much to ask.
Big W for Riot, it’s always wired to me that players with better standing ended up with less prizing compared with some 200ish standing players. I understand many players have invested a lot of time prepping for some non first tier legends including myself. It’s frustrating and may influence the outcome of this event, but I am confident that’s gonna make the game better for longer period.
I am holding Chinese passport so I need to apply visa for entering EU. I went to Germany ambasscy for visa the other day. The lady asked me why am I going to Germany, I said for a card game tournament. She was asking me for proof of travel. I have to tell her I am sorry but they haven’t start selling tickets yet. She was surprised and asked me how is it possible that the tournament is within a month and you don’t even have a ticket for entry. Cooked lol
For majority of the decks in meta, I don’t really care how they gonna shuffle their runes cause it’s very unlikely they gonna have issues with their rune colors. Kennen is the only deck that I will care since I dont need to play around certain cards if they have no yellow runes early and they only have like 3-4 yellow runes.
The past weekend was a little below my expectations. I managed to make Top 64 with a 10-3 record on Vex at RQLA.
I lost to Irelia in Round 5, made it to Day 2, and then lost to two LeBlancs on Day 2—matchups that were supposed to be in my favor. R11 G3 was extremely unlucky. I probably win that game if any of the six cards in my hand had hidden card draw, but it is what it is.
I ended up 5th on the Vex leaderboard and 60th overall. I'm pretty sure there are still things that need to be changed in my decklist.
I learned my lesson the hard way during the Pre-RQ, and I don't think I made any major misplays throughout the main event. Just bad luck, I guess. I only won two dice rolls during the entire main event while playing Vex, which was extremely frustrating and made things a lot harder. Somehow, I still managed to win the majority of those matchups.
Overall, I'm still happy to have earned my third invite, which I hope I can carry over to next year. There's still a lot of work to do if I want to make the miracle happen.
Huge shout-out to all the Toronto players—the best Riftbound community in the world. There are way too many people to name individually who helped and supported me throughout the weekend.
Appreciate you all! ❤️
