@WG_RumblePants@surreycricket Wanna swap your club for mine in T20 right now?
I think it’s an issue having Pope & Curran at 3 & 4. Both inconsistent in T20 with the bat for different reasons.
If you lose one early, I’d go Evans in at 3. He’s so much better when he’s got time to get in, then accelerate.
Broad is good too, but that sh*te he just spouted about Robinson not being selected because they worry about his skills on flatter decks, is nonsense.
We all know it was a fitness/attitude issue.
Why are we changing the story now?
What do people see in Ben Geddes?!?!?
Looks very average against decent bowling or testing conditions, white & red ball, but played for the England Lions when objectively far better players don’t get a sniff.
He’s ok in Div 2, can’t see him getting into a decent side.
@GREEKMASTER99 For those more technically savvy, is there battery use now not equivalent to how fuel saving used to be so critical post refuelling ban? Drivers who’s driving style used less fuel didn’t have to lift & coast as much. Now drivers who use their battery better have an advantage.
@mattylufc_ Edgbaston pitches the last few years, if you bowl first & get them cheap, you have to go big as it gets flat days 2&3. If you’re not batting then, you lose the best conditions & this happens. Day & a half in the field, rested bowlers etc. But there’s been some shocking play too.
@WG_RumblePants@Ginge2477 Yeah the Surrey champs lets them schedule all their matches for the 2 weeks as away games.
They also host some hospitality there too. 2 weeks basically funds all of the sports that make up the club for the year.
@barnstonworth@ECB_cricket Gary can I ask, with the new CC punishment of all points lost for a “below average” pitch. Does that have any effect, do you lean on the side of caution as a club? Seems to be more “flat” pitches this year, is that just the weather or does the punishment creep into thinking?
@mattylufc_ I think part of this is a direct result of the announcement that teams will lose all the points from a match where the pitch is deemed below average.
So clubs are leaning towards being cautious.
8 points plus bonuses for a draw is better than 0 points.
@WG_RumblePants It’s hard in 4 days, especially this time of year, to get pitches that have enough pace in them, start lively, flatten out & break up or get enough rough.
Surrey used to have the bowlers to deal with it, but this season players have been limited by the ECB, injured or have left.
@Mendelpol I think for them they’ve not had big injury issues, their skill is ball movement, intelligence & consistency, they can stay at high levels for a long time, it’s the body & desire that’s stops them . It’s not like a bowler relying on pure speed or batters when the eyes go.
@CaveJohn6138@NoContextCounty In principal for one match I don’t disagree.
But think England red ball players should be available for English red ball competitions. Same for the T20 and Hundred.
It raises our quality.
Because the IPL hasn’t improved our ability to play in India.
@WG_RumblePants Don’t move Bethell. Don’t risk a player who’s just started to establish himself in a role, for 1 or 2 that may not last the summer.
He stays as 3. If Smith or Rew want to be in the side, they play good enough where they can get in. Be that opening, keeping etc.
