I was crazy busy at work today but wanted to say a few words about this before the day ended. I don't normally write shit like this but this one hit hard.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer just by name alone should have been a 1 season corny 90's teen soap joke. But it ended up being a beloved show that took it's audience serious and created a lifelong fandom.
A huge part of that was because Anthony Head's Rupert Giles, a strong, caring, smart, father figure to a whole generation of young people. He was strong, caring, smart, and talented, and that's something we don't get a lot of today in modern day male characters.
RIP "Ripper" ๐ฅ
Cool: Female main characters who have a personality and interests and a strong character arc with strengths and flaws.
Not cool: hyper-independent women who have 0 friends, hate their families, and are jerks to everyone, especially the love interest, because, "I'm tough."
@Be_like_legend I worked with two year olds and I loved it. Toddlers are honest with their emotions, they don't know enough about social cues yet to notice your quirks, and they have an incredible imagination that made me laugh every day.
@strongeststars Don't look at me, I'm a bad influence :) My theory is that life is short and joy hard to find so if you have the money in your budget, do it. ๐
If weโre talking about Giles, then I have to mention my other favorite character. They didnโt have that much screen time but when they did I could not stop laughing. Watching him get stuck with only Cordelia to help him made the episode โGingerbreadโ shine for me.
Cordy was standoffish and difficult at times, but there is no doubt in my mind that Giles considered her one of his kids too.
And this why I wrote 55 k where they only get their shit together in the last three k and there is only one small section of smut there to move the plot along. (Sorry about that Beverly)
In 2003, I was 9 years old & I auditioned to play Jeremy in Chitty @ the Palladium. I got a recall then got cut. I was in the street crying into the arms of my grandma when a man stopped and asked if I was ok. My grandma explained and he wrote me this. It was Anthony Head. RIP ๐
