Technical Sergeant John W. Brown was a United States Air Force Pararescueman assigned to the elite 24th Special Tactics Squadron at Pope Field, North Carolina.
Brown enlisted in the Air Force in March 2002 and completed the demanding Pararescue pipeline before joining the 38th Rescue Squadron at Moody Air Force Base. He later served with the 31st Rescue Squadron in Japan before being assigned to the 24th STS in 2009. Over his career, Brown completed eight deployments in support of the Global War on Terror, serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
On August 6, 2011, Brown deployed to Afghanistan as part of a mission supporting U.S. special operations forces. During the mission, the CH-47 Chinook carrying Brown and other special operations personnel was shot down in Wardak Province. Brown was among the 31 American service members k!k¡lled.
