Sonic Team head Takahashi Iizuka says the especially memorable game that he has ever worked on is Sonic Adventure 2!
"I have fond memories of all of them, but if I had to pick one, it would be Sonic Adventure 2 from 2001.
After finishing the previous game, Sonic Adventure (1998), I took the staff with me to San Francisco to work on this game. While the previous project was a large-scale project involving over 100 people, development on Sonic Adventure 2 started with just 11 people.
Just hearing this might make it sound like it was a tough development environment, but since we were a small team in a new location, I remember that we were all able to work together freely and enjoy the development while supporting each another both professionally and personally.
Those results were incorporated into the game's content itself, allowing us to create a title that has gained the support of many fans. I was also really delighted that the story was adopted for the third movie 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3'."

Coming soon to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds:
- 🐢 TMNT: July 2026
- 👨🦲 Avatar Legends: October 2026
- 🔥 Godzilla
- 🪽 EVANGELION
- ❓ More to come!
That's not all! Sonic is speeding into the world of @picoparkgame, stay tuned for more!
I'm curious if people have noticed this. In the far distance of Emerald Hill Zone in Sonic 2, you can see what looks to be South Island out on the ocean. Then when you arrive on Angel Island in Sonic 3, you can see a landmass similar in shape to West Side Island. Clever shit 😎
🚨 LEAK WATCH: Thanks to Reddit user u/conis-4, we may have our first look at the cover art for Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition.
No official details about the game have been revealed yet.

Sonic Team Head Takashi Iizuka says he would like to see every Sonic game available on modern consoles, but given the cost of making that happen (not just porting, but remaking), the team would rather focus on new experiences.
He also said if people continue purchasing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and buying the year 2 content, he mentioned a possible year 3.
