The Eagles lost plenty in free agency with the departures of Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Isiah Rodgers, Darius Slay, Oren Burks, and Mekhi Becton. CJ Gardner-Johnson was traded and Dallas Goedert likely will be.
That’s a lot of talent from a deep and talented championship roster.
It’s also the right move. Howie Roseman secured the most valuable of the potential departures by resigning All Pro linebacker Zack Baun.
The Eagles have 7 opening day starters back on defense and 9 of 13 with the most defensive snaps.
They added 3 more compensatory draft picks and will likely add another when Becton likely departs. This gives them over 20 draft picks in the next two years. Most teams have 14. 11 of the 20 picks are in the first 4 rounds with that number likely moving to 12. Roughly 40% of their roster could be on rookie deals if they kept all these picks.
This gives Howie some serious ammunition to work with. Expect him to trade up for various players they covet in the upcoming drafts. What if TE Tyler Warren is somebody they want after they trade Goedert? They have the picks to make it happen. We aren’t saying that’s the move but it is an example of what could be done to maintain a championship talent pool.
The other advantage is it gives the Eagles the financial flexibility to pay their core. Jalen Carter will secure a monster deal soon and so will Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
In a nutshell, despite losing quite a bit from last year the Birds are well positioned to make multiple Super Bowl runs in the future.
There is no fanbase that should feel better about their future than ours. In Howie we trust. He’s earned it.
The Phils starting staff is off to a great start in spring training.
Christopher Sanchez’ sinker is sitting at 98mph when last year it was 94.5mph.
Jesus Luzardo says he finally feels healthy again. He is hitting 98mph and was dominant in his start. Two years ago he struck out 208 batters in 178 innings.
They both have the potential to elevate the Phils staff from a traditional 1-5 staff to a 1 with Wheeler and maybe four 2s in Nola, Suarez, Sanchez, and Luzardo.
Meanwhile top prospect Andrew Painter is in the wings saying “hold my beer”
If healthy we expect the starting staff to be elite this year.
The Phillies rotation is stacked. Wheeler, Nola, Suarez, Sanchez, Luzardo matches up with anyone including the Dodgers. Add in Andrew Painter to the mix and the Phils have guys that can be 1s and 2s for most teams.
Look for a breakout year from Christopher Sanchez. He was really good last year throwing 181 innings with 153 Ks and a 3.32 ERA.
In his first spring start yesterday he looked dominant throwing 97-98 mph easily and had 7 swings and misses in 2 innings.
He has top of the rotation stuff and is now hitting his peak at age 28.
Talk of banning the Tush Push is ridiculous. Even the Eagles struggled to run it without Hurts. It would be similar to not allowing Steph Curry to shoot 3's or having Mike Tyson only be able to box with his left hand.
Should the Eagles trade for DE Myles Garrett?
While the answer to that question is steep in draft picks and $ the answer is….ABSOLUTELY!
Howie Roseman knows adding proven elite talent is worth it. See the additions of Saquon Barkley and AJ Brown previously. This is way better than overpaying to retain good but not great talent.
Garret is the best DE in the league. He’s not only dominant against the pass but also the run. Put him on a line with Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith and good luck to every opposing QB. The move would cement the Eagles as the top defense and give them a good run at a dynasty.
The price will be two first round picks or one first round plus 2-3 day 2/3 picks. Then Howie will need to do his thing with the cap. Finding a way out of Bryce Huff’s contract is a start.
But the price is worth it and as we’ve seen before when Howie sees a chance to go from good to great he takes his shot.
Go get him Howie!
SS Aidan Miller is either the Phils #1 or #2 prospect along with SP Andrew Painter.
They are both legit tier one prospects who are listed within the top 15 prospect rankings for all of baseball.
Despite only playing 5 games at the AA level and mostly A ball last year Miller has a real chance to get called up at some point this season either due to injury or due to his readiness.
He has insane bat speed and an incredibly advanced plate approach that make him mature beyond his years. He plays SS but might be very natural at 3B. His legs are so strong (generating his power potential)his nickname is Quadzilla.
Depending on the performance and health of Alec Bohm and Trea Turner the Phillies organization clearly is not afraid to move him up. He could also prompt moves such as Turner to LF or Bohm to 1B depending on the health of the rest of the team.
Get to know him Phils fans. His future is bright and it could arrive in 2025.
The last time the Eagles were in the Super Bowl they lost both of their coordinators in Jonathan Gannon to Arizona and Shane Steichen to Indy.
They were replaced by OC Brian Johnson DC Sean Desai. They were both internal hires who had never been coordinators before. They were replaced by experienced coordinators Vic Fangio and Kellen Moore and the rewards were reaped.
Does the organization play that same book seeking an experienced OC from the outside or do they go internal and inexperienced again?
The number 1 internal candidate is passing game coordinator and associate head coach Kevin Patullo. Coach Nick said of him last week, “I trust him and have complete faith in him. He’s awesome”
Or do they go outside and bring back former OC Frank Reich who was highly regarded before leaving Philly in 2018? Reich previously hired Sirianni the be his OC. Could they reverse roles now?
Or do they bring in somebody like current OC Mike LaFleur from the Rams who doesn’t call his own plays with HC Sean McVay?
Whichever way they go the choice will have a ton of pressure taking over a stacked championship offensive unit.
Our guess here is it’s likely to be Patullo. Sirianni loves the guy, trusts him and with a Lombardi in his pocket…now he’s empowered to take who he wants.
Top 5 plays of Eagles postseason.
5. Jalen Carter sack of stafford to end rd 2
4. 60 yd saquon rush against Rams in snow
3. Dallas goedert 3 stiff arms TD to end Green Bay wildcard game
2. Cooper Dejean int for a TD to put Birds up 17-0
In bowl
1. Hurts to 6 46yds to win the game in the superbowl
The Phillies open their spring training schedule in exactly 9 days.
One major change for the Phils this spring is likely to be a new lineup with a new lead off hitter.
Rob Thompson is going to look at Trea Turner in the lead off spot with Kyle Schwarber moving to cleanup.
This adds speed to the top, moves the power of Schwarber to the middle of the lineup, and helps to balance the lefty/righty matchups.
Look for a lineup like this:
1) Turner
2) Harper
3) Bohm
4) Schwarber
5) Castellanos
6) Stott
7) Realmuto
8) Kepler
9) Marsh

Thank you Howie!
Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles, my former teammates, and friends on being SB LIX Champions!! There were a lot of emotions last night, and now that I’ve collected my thoughts, I’ll attempt to share them in the longest tweet ever.
That game was odd for me to watch if I’m being completely honest. I knew it was going to be mixed emotions before, during, and after, and I now know what my parents had to deal with two years ago. On one hand, I wanted what is best for my brother, and to see his success. And on the other hand, there are so many people, teammates, and coaches, in the Philadelphia Eagles organization that I care deeply about, Many of whom I owe my own success to throughout my career.
I am very proud for Jalen Hurts, Nick Sirianni, and this entire team. They have persevered greatly, answered their critics amazingly, and proved themselves to be undoubtedly the best team this season. It is extremely difficult for a team in the NFL to have enough talent, coaching, fortune, and character to win a Super Bowl. The character and swagger of this Eagles team was something truly special to behold. A true representation of the toughness and grit that makes Philadelphia what it is. Well done fellas, well fucking done.
As for my brother, There isn’t a person I love or care about more. It has been tough to process these feelings, of course I feel for him and am always rooting for him, but I know he does not need, nor want my pity. He has amassed greatness few on this planet could ever dream of, as has his team, and they should feel pride in their accomplishments this season and in the past. I know right now they are still thinking of last night and the shortcomings in the last game, But in time that will fade, and the greatness they have exhibited as a group will remain as one of the most dominant eras of football ever.
Man I love this sport, the people that play it, and the fans that enjoy it. Nothing else like it. Congratulations Philadelphia, I look forward to the speeches and celebrations that will happen in the coming days. I mean who doesn’t love a parade! In the words of Chase Utley “World Fucking Champs”, and to all the haters out there, remember what my man Jay Ajayi said “Fuck Em”
Go Birds
Howie Roseman dominated the 2024 offseason and it paid off with the greatest Eagles season in history.
So let’s take a look at the Eagles off-season for 2025 as they try to repeat.
The biggest free agents confronting the Eagles are:
Josh Sweat, Zack Baun, Mekhi Becton, Milton Williams, Kenneth Gainwell, Avonte Maddox, and a likely retiring Brandon Graham and Darius Slay.
The first 4 they would love to keep but it’s unlikely particularly with Sweat hiring Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent and the development of Edge Jalyx Hunt.
The Eagles will have roughly $20 million in cap space to bring back some of that list. Can they retain 2 of the first 4? It might just be one and that could be DT Milton Williams. Baun is a huge question mark as he will get paid big by somebody.
The Birds will do plenty of work in the draft where they have 7 picks in the first 5 rounds.
With the bulk of a championship roster returning look for Howie to get younger and build depth. WR 3 and backup TE along with the constant pursuit of line depth will be the goals.
It won’t be like last offseason with huge acquisitions like Barkley but with the right supplements the Birds will be prohibitive favorites heading into the 2025 season.
